By default, the max is set to infinite but if you set it to a specific number, anything above that will (should?) be sent down.
So could I set a logistic group for items I want to initially build my platform, then make a copy of that logistic group that has all the items set to 0? Then deactivate the first logistic group and activate the 0-item logistic group when I'm done building?
Trying to do this in as few clicks as possible (per ship). Manually clicking 20+ items for every ship is kind of against the Factorio mindset of automating anything you have to do more than once.
When you have a blueprint of your platform you can klick the "New section" thing for requests and it will request all it needs for that blueprint.
You can also Control leftklick in the inventory to dump everything on the planet but i encountered some periods where it takes some time to dump them.
Your idea with the logisticswitch would be the best in terms of "doing work once to avoid it later" while that of cause depends on how often you change your setup.
Also, even if that isnt the question, i would recommend to keep a few extras of stuff on your platform and therefor invest in some storage expansions for it. that way if a unlucky asteroid hits your platform it can just rebuild itselve with the spare parts.
you could also request the leftovers from the ground by seting up your request in the ground station so it will request the items from the platform the other way around. may be the least work by just creating a blueprint of your ship and put it on request down there
EDIT: Ok I figured it out. The requests I had didn't have a maximum (it was infinite). Once I set the max to the minimum values, it started dropping everything.
A second thing I tried which sort of worked was to have the cargo platform on Nauvis make the same requests that the platforms were making. When I turned off those requests on the platform and as long as another request didn't include the items, they got sent down to Nauvis.
