tank turret aiming

Im pretty sure im not doing anything wrong. i'm in the tank, and im face to face with a spitting worm with my cannon selected. the turret is auto aiming away from the worm. how do i make the turret shoot the thing in front of me?

You need WASD to steer, Q to toggle weapon and c/space to shoot (i.e. all keys you hit with your left hand) and the mouse to aim (right hand).

What are you doing that would require a third hand?

Just put your mouse above the thing you want the tank to shoot at... Otherwise, it'll shoot at everything else the mouse is going over instead.

No, really... I moved the mouse over something, pressed space, nothing, C and shot nothing. I'm loaded with everything needed too. Tried Q to switch and then did it again and got nothing.

I'm just Destroyer Capsule spamming everything, so it's not a big deal.

My inventory is on the bottom right... the gun slots are up top

gun slots should be bottom right
top right should be research tab
bottom left is nothing (i think)
bottom middle is hotbar
and right under the research tab should be the minimap

Let's go over basic controls first: Space is regular attack, which will fire at "appropriate" targets (for example, the shotgun will always fire in the cursor's direction while the submachine gun will only shoot if hostiles are nearby). C is forced attack, which will fire even when there are no appropriate targets nearby (for example, if you want to shoot rocks with the submachine gun you need to press c instead).

Now, the tank's machine gun works much like the smg - space will shoot at aliens, and c will allow you to shoot at other targets (e.g. trees). You can't use the machine gun to fire without a target much like you can't fire the smg without a target.

The tank's cannon works much like the shotgun in that either space or c will fire a shell in the direction of the cursor.

You can open the tank's inventory regardless of whether you are in the tank. When you are in the tank, the tank's weapons will show up in the bottom right corner replacing your regular tool/weapons.
