No, there still isn't a way to dispose of stuff like that without putting it in a chest and shooting it. I don't think there are any plans to add that in the future, either, since (with the exception of a few pieces of burner equipment from the early game) everything can be reused in some way.
I am strongly in favour of such a mechanic because making the player choose between two bad options is just plain not fun: slow progress (skip steel furnaces and very slowly upgrade to electric furnaces) or lots of waste (build steel furnaces, and discard them after maybe 2h)
