Map view zoom in

After the 600-odd hours it says I've had Fac on my screen, I only just discovered: if you go out to the Map View, you can use wheelscroll to zoom in anywhere distant till it actually enters details view. And furthermore that you only get to see anything if the area is covered by a radar scanner (or close to yourself).

Now, call me blind, but I had never noticed this ability :( I have always understood that I have to run anywhere to get somewhere within my character's screen view. Now that I can scroll in to view from the Map instead, I don't have to run miles just to understand what is happening somewhere distant. This is revolutionary!

Has it always been like this and I was blind? Was it added in a patch?

I believe it was added in 0.13 or possibly 0.14?

I think they added this feature in 0.14 or 0.15.

You can also place blueprints and use the deconstruction planner from the zoomed-in map view. you can select trains and change their schedules and rename train stations. Lots of stuff you can do without actually going there.

It's also quite handy for checking out your comrades' exploits, especially when they do something entertaining! haha

But do you understand how game-experience-changing this is for me to discover after 600 hours of playing?! :)

Here's a challenge for you: Download one of the mods that enables construction robots from the beginning of the game. Start a Rail World map with all the resources set to extremely rare. Build a wall around yourself so you can't move, and play all the way through to a rocket launch using only radar + map view + robots.
