1. Research the Military 1 and 2 techs
2. Build yourself a submachine gun
3. Build a healthy amount of piercing rounds ammo
4. Save your game
5. Walk up to the enemies while holding the Spacebar, and move the cursor near them. You'll automatically target whatever enemy is closest to the cursor.

If you're still having trouble and getting killed, you can also make a couple of gun turrets and put them near the enemy base to retreat behind. You might even use the "turret creep" strategy, where you leapfrog turrets over each other progressively moving closer and closer to the enemy. You don't even need a gun yourself, just let the turrets do all the work while you focus on repairing and moving them.

Putting down a few turrets to give yourself a safe space to retreat to is always a good option. Two turrets with 10 magazines each gives you time to catch your breath, heal up a bit and go at them again even if you dont want to turret creep.

Also dont forget you can catch a few fish to eat and regain health.

Also, use turrets as shields. If a biter nest has dozen or more of the tier 3 worms, place a turret down as close to them as you can without being shot yourself. Don't put anything in it. Move up a few spaces and place another ahead. repeat until you can plop down 2 or 3 turrets that are within range of the big worms and fill them with ammo.

I'd recommend that you have 20-30 turrets for this, as well as 1000+ bullets. You don't want to be spending any time cutting ammo stacks into smaller stacks while you are under fire, so I end up putting entire clips in (or half of one, by right clicking the stack first, or a wuarter stack by doing that then shift-right-clicking it into a turret).

What I do for the turret creep strategy is this:

1. Equip gun turrets (at least 4 of them) on the first slot on the toolbar (middle mouse button to keep them from being replaced by anything else. Also equip ammo on the 2nd slot, and repair packs on the 3rd slot.
2. When attacking the enemy base, just press 1 and quickly set down 2 turrets, then press 2 and right-click the turrets you just put down. It's the quickest way to do it that I've found, once you practice it some.
3. Move ahead of the turrets you just placed, and place some more and give them ammo.
4. Pick up the rear-most turrets and move them in front, repairing as needed.
