Repair does not do anything?
Given that I am playing without biters, you might well wonder what I could have to repair? Well, I've driven the car, very badly, bashing into my buildings a lot! :)

So I have some buildings I take to be damaged, because they are displaying "health bars". I have to say the bars are green and pretty full, but nonetheless I assume they are damaged. I put my Repair kit thing in my hand, but clicking the buildings does not result in any repair. Is it supposed to?

Are you close enough? You still need to be in manipulation range to repair them.

You need to target the repair kit over the item, then click and hold, and you'll hear a whirring sound as the item is repaired

I think so, yes:

Cursor is Repair Tool. But clicking on any of the green bar damaged things always just brings up the Player contents?

Hope I'm not doing soemthing really dumb here....

Are you left-clicking or right-clicking?
jonbrave Feb 12, 2018 @ 12:48pm
Tried both! Hang on...

OK. Ummm. To repair the pipe, say, seems to take about 4 separate clicks, I have just discovered. To repair the car takes like 10 separate clicks. Each time I click, I get up the general character content dialog, which I dismiss each time. This "works", but cannot be "right".

The above is all left-clicking. It's as though, the left-clicks are taken as being on "nowhere" each time, for the purpose of bringing up the dialog/window, yet somehow accumulate toward repairing. I cannot "keep the left click down" as I would for right-clcik-destruct, because the dialog/window comes up. It's always been this way for me.

If I right-click, it goes through the "object destruction" sequence, so no repair.

?

That's really strange. Left-click should only bring up the inventory if you click on something like a chest or assembler (something that you can manually add/remove things from) and it should only do THAT if the cursor is empty. Are you pressing any keys while you click?
jonbrave Feb 12, 2018 @ 1:49pm
No keys being pressed. Promise.

I have Fac installed on two different PCs, same behaviour. Been that way since I acquired Fac, at 0.16.something. So it must be me!

Could we start with telling me what is supposed to happen, since I've never seen it? I pick up the repairer, I see the cursor change to that, so that's good. Then whne i would left-click on a damaged thing, would it repair immediately in one click? Would it take multiple clicks? Would I have to hold the left mouse down for a while? Would something show me repair was progressing?

BTW:
> Left-click should only bring up the inventory if you click on something like a chest or assembler
It is not the inventory of an object I get, it is the inventory of the player. Just as I would get if I left-clicked in a blank area.

OMG! Do you press a key to get up the player's inventory?? I left-click in any blank area. I might, just might, have mapped a key for that when I first started playing Fac, 'coz pressing a key is ridiculous...!!!???

You'd hold down the button and the health would gradually be restored while the repair pack is gradually used up (a green bar below the repair pack icon shows how much of it is left). So a badly damaged thing will take longer and use up more of the repair pack.

Please read what I have just posted at the end of my previous response!?
The Chaotic Coder Feb 12, 2018 @ 1:57pm
I typed my response before your edit.

Clicking a chest/assembler/whatever (with nothing on the cursor) brings up BOTH inventories (yours and the machine's) so you can add/remove items from your pocket if you want.

The default key to open your player inventory (without interacting with a machine) is E, if you've changed it to a mouse click then that would certainly explain it.

Err, I don't think it does for me! It brings up just the object's inventory, not my full one. I exchange against the toolbelt at the bottom...? (Actually this is harder to describe, depends what I click on, e.g. if a chest I get a "split-window". Maybe that's what you mean. I never get two, separate windows.)

I have it so left-click on nothing brings up the player's inventory. Left click again dismisses it...?

Gulp! :)

Wait, so if you wnat to put let's say iron plates into a gear machine, you'd do something like this:

1. Click the ground to open inventory
2. Move iron to your toolbar
3. Click ground again to close inventory
4. Click a machine
5. Move iron into machine

...do I have that right?

The standard way (if no keys have been changed):
1. Click machine, both inventories open
2. Move iron plates

Or if you just want to look at your inventory, press E

So, yeah, I would definitly suggest putting your controls back to default... ;)

Try changing "open character screen" (5th one from the top of the left collumn) to E and see if you can repair now.
