Suggestion: Colored Concrete?
I like to keep my factory tidy, but despite my best efforts... anyways, I think colored concrete -- beyond the different directional hazard concrete -- would allow players to map pipes, indicate expansion plans, keep a grid etc. And there is always "a sense of aethetics" which I am always about.

Since I like to bring solutions to the table, not just suggestions - perhaps the ore could be used as a basis for coloring choices? Perhaps it would only be available in refined concrete - or beyond refined concrete, like the hazard refined concrete operates. To give players something to work towards.

Or maybe like using mica irl, it could be based on that principal - stone is bust down and mica is harvested with diminishing returns on "difficult colors" like teals, purples, reds etc.

Thoughts?

I think the colored flooring would be better made only of wood. Then I could use it in the early game without needing assemblers. Having multiple colored flooring would be very useful.

Wood is mostly under-utilized, so that's a great idea! I thought it was a little strange that you go from nothing straight to stone then to concrete. Alternately, some kind of painting system wouldn't be remiss. But I'm sure recolorizing all of the sprites in the game would be a serious task.
