Industrial Revolution Mid-Game

On my first attempt with IR and have just hit the iron age. But I've hit a bit of a snag as far as automating and getting a base idea going. I think I'd like to set up a main bus, but I guess I'm unsure where to start because of the plethora of middle products needed. Do I just bus the individual ingots and assemble everything at each product? Do I bus basic products and only assemble the intermediates? Do I keep hand-feeding bronze assemblers because I have nothing better to do with my life? (I'm tired of doing that tbh)

Fellow Industrial Revolutionaries, what have you done that has worked? What hasn't worked? Do you have any general ideas / tips for the IR middle-game?

I considered a bus too, and even laid the framework for it. To get through the iron age, I just built a mass storage and linked 4-7 factories to it with inserters, manually putting hundreds of ingots into the mass storage and turning them into intermediates in large groups. The only things I built off the bus were belts and inserters. This was just an intermediate solution and involved a lot of micromanagement, but it got me through to steel and I've had enough space to spaghetti automated science up to blue. I'll run out of space soon. If I were to start over I'd make a bus with 4 lanes for each metal type. One belt for two belts for ingots, 1 for plates and rods. Hi, I'm about to automate blue science now with Industrial revolution (also got Krastorio installed)
I've been kinda doing a bus system so far, but I'm locally producing every intermediate products, the bus basically only has basic ore and some ingots (like glass and iron).

I'm trying to get through the late ages and unlock all the nice technologies and learning the mods before really setting up an end-game base.

TLDR: Semi bus + organized spaghetti so far
