First time-how to launch rocket?
Hello all :) I am just about to (hopefully) finish my first ever play through of factorio, I did it completely blind and didn't have any issues up until this point. My issue is that I just built the rocket silo, I built the "rocket part" with the needed stuff, it did the cool blaring alarm like it was going to launch and the rocket even raised out of the silo like it was about it launch, but now it just says "rocket waiting for launch" and it started building another rocket part in the same silo. Do I need more then one rocket part to launch it? and if so, how do I tell when I can actually launch it?
Thanks.

you can launch the rocket when theres a rocket sitting in the silo waiting to launch.
that second bar is just another rocket being built beneath the first one so you can rapid fire them.

to launch the rocket you need to put a satellite into it, and have a cargo landing pad placed somewhere in the world

Not sure how Vailla works in 2.0, because I only play space age now. But before 2.0 there was a button for launch. If you wanted space science, you needed to craft a satellite and insert it into the rocket. There was also a tick box to launch automatically when the rocket received a satellite.
IF
you are playing space age, the rocket will need a specific purpose. Since this is your first rocket, you need to put in it a Space Platform starter pack, that will assemble your first orbital platform in orbit. after that you will need to design and assemble a new platform in space.

a satellite is now mandatory in 2.0 without space age

So the "So long and thanks for all the fish" achievement is no longer attainable in game??

i havent tested it but i would think thats still fine.
i just know you cant launch an empty rocket, and you cant insert a car, tank, or train to ride the rocket like you used to.

That is still there, and earned the same way. Avoiding the spoiler with the "how" part.
The catch is that to launch a rocket, in 2.0 base, you also have to have a landing pad built. Anywhere on the map, not necessarily next to the silo. What goes up must come down, and the silo is only the place to 'go up'. Need the landing pad for the place to 'come down'.
Once the landing pad is built, the rocket's GUI will include the button to launch.

Sadly, true. I like the visual of 'riding the rocket' and miss it. You also cannot 'enter' the silo like you could in 1.1.
