All the features they posted during last year
Are these features (like new railroads etc) going to be implemented in that space age expansion, or they will be released as a patch to base game? Or maybe they were already released and I missed it?

Some are coming in the free 2.0 update and the others are in the space age expansion.

Did they give any date for that 2.0 update?

The same data as the expansion. https://store.steampowered.com/app/645390/Factorio_Space_Age/ you can see the date on the expansions steam page.

All you need to know about what's coming and what's free, along with all the rest, is summarized on the wiki's Upcoming features[wiki.factorio.com] page. Includes links to the relevant FFF for things you want to know more about. Bonus is that it is kept up to date, unlike a list I could make, of have made in long-dead threads before.

When it affects and is restrictable to only the base game, it will affect the base game in 2.0; EG: The rail system/shape rework. It's a rewrite of the existing rail system, so it will be part of 2.0 and available to owners of the base game.

When it is a New function/mechanic/addition, it will be part of the expansion
EG: The Elevated Rails; This is a brand new mechanic/addition that didn't exist in the base game, so it will be an expansion only feature.

I'm not saying this is incorrect, nor am I saying it is correct. Hard and fast rules with generic terms and conditions can be confusing when others try to apply a rule "I" understand myself. That's why I've always tried, once I learned of it, pointing people to the wiki page.

Examples of potential confusion are two new items, the select combinator and the display panel. Which, if either, will be part of the free 2.0 update and which will be exclusive to the expansion, or to the SA mod? My understandings have often been wrong, and don't always agree with others. I believe both are part of the free update. The wiki page seems to indicate that the panel is in the free content while, if I read it correctly, the select combinator is only in the Space Age mod's content. As I interpret you rule, both would be expansion only content, whether that is in general or in the SA mod only seems unclear.

I mean, yeah. A general rule is a general rule; and will pretty much always have exceptions. Jaywalking is generally against the law, Plenty of people except themselves and walk across anyway. A general rule of underground is you use them to, yknow, go underground beneath stuff.. But you can also make exceptions by using it to split off only one lane from an incoming belt, kindof like a splitter. :conwayshrug: I don't ever expect a general rule to apply universally- Because they never do. But it is fair to say that I wasn't clear enough as I didn't put "As a general rule...", I had thought I did, but I must've clipped it out when rephrasing the message before sending it.

In any case, I think it's fair to assume the general rule is correct unless otherwise specified by the devs; And the display panel is something that they otherwise specified.

Display panels will be coming for free as part of the base game 2.0 update.

The rail thing is still really amusing to me as the example of the rule, because it's a new feature on an existing system, and for the most part that sort of thing is considered a quality of life addition when it happens normally. It takes the concept and breaks it in the same breath.
