The request itself can be for any quantity. You could request 50 blue chips only and get some delivered. I'm saying "some" because...
The thing is, by default, a rocket will only be launched if it can be launched with full cargo. So by requesting 50, if you have 60 already, nothing will happen. But if it drops to 49, then a rocket will ship 300 more. Which might be more than what you wished for.
You can fine tune minimal delivery size to less than a full rocket. As in, set a request for 50, set minimum rocket load to 100, and you'll never have more than 149 chips at the platform.
Or set a request for 951, minimal delivery to 50, you'll never have more than 1k.
if you want ot use inserters to feed rocket silo with export item you can't have Automatic request from space platforms active.
Rocket is single item type only for auto launching in any mode. Hope this get changed.
Using bots requires you to use inserters to move the items into a logistic chest. Why not just move those inserters next to the rocket and save your factory some energy.
