Why is artillery so weak?
The cannon ammo for tanks pack quite a punch, and with every upgrade it gains +100% damage, which is massive. It easily dwarves artillery ammunition, which only gains +10% damage.
I think we also need more shell variety, incendiary, poison, cluster bombs, mines, nukes, or maybe get more creative with automaticly deploying a quadpack of gun turrets filled with some ammo.

Probably for game balance, since artillery can be fully automated, while you have to drive the tank close to nests and do everything yourself there.

*Biter nests explode from 400 miles out, Biters flail around in a panick.*
Meanwhile: "Man, Why is this thing so weak? I had to fire three time as many shots to clear everything within 1000 tiles compared to if I drove the tank around and didn't have to sit there fussing over it cause it all happened automatically.."

Yeah, I uh... I wonder why it does less damage. OP are you the type that likes guns like the AWP or other super sniper weapons that 1 shot kill to any part of the body from any range? :conwayheadscratch: Honest question... Mostly. :winter2019joyfultearsyul:

Yes, It's 100% game balance. The thing has RANGE for days, And it pays for that in damage output and inability to manually target biters themselves and only able to auto target the nests.

Why is cannon ammo so short?
The ammo for artillery pack quite a range, and with every upgrade it gains more range, which is massive. It easily dwarves cannon ammunition, which only tavels 30 tiles.

^ there ;)

As for more ammo variety, I disagree. I would love myself more toys, but with how the combat is now, you would just pick the best one and use that one. And even if you were granted new shells, you would just leave the old ones, since the automated factories are all set up. Looking up close at the destruction is 0.01% of the artillery uptime, for 99.99% of the time a difference in shells would not matter at all.

combat is too simple

The simple/boring part of combat in this game is the AI primarily, not so much the weapons. which are all quite acceptable, not very balanced but balanced enough to be fun, although you reach a point at which you realize a straight line of laser turrets is entirely sufficient for anything the game can throw at you, because even if the enemies break through they just chew around the parameter killing more turrets like a bunch of idiots, and any turrets you lose will get immediately replaced because turret production is automated.

I‘m a bit miffed that arty got a huge effort vs effect nerf but imo it WAS too strong before.

Now there is an actual downside because of the high cost per shot + stronger nests.
Even with the 100% damage buff they usually require 2 hits per nest by the time you can make them in bulk (if you play with evolution) unless you are far into the endless damage research ( stage ~6 should suffice to kill nests with one hit at max evo)
