Auto-fuel cars and tanks is AWSOME! Why not trains?
The new feature wich you can place a tank or car and can just drive as long as there is some fel in your inventory is awsome.
But why can't we do this with trains as well?

lol yeah - this thread was the first i learned that cars do it - adding fuel and ammo is muscle memory these days :-)

i only recently learned that they will pull ammo from your inventory - not sure if that is a new feature - but i knew they wouldn't pull from their own inventory

This feature is only added very recently one or 2 patches ago. So not really lost work there as it was not yet possible.
.ps the do take ammo from your inventory?! hmm need to check that, would indeed also be practical (but also dangerous, running out of ammo would also mean ALL of your ammo then, unless they don't use the ammo wich is at your weapon slots.)

Simple solution to achieve almost the same effect as the tank/car auto-fuel is to use a blueprint.

Place the engine, add the fuel of your choice and then make a blueprint of it. Uncheck the 'entities' box, which removes the rails, and anything else you happened to grab while dragging, and check the 'fuel' option.

When you would pull the train out of you pocket, just pull the print instead. It will align to the rails under it, and rotate both ways, the same as a regular locomotive would. The personal bots will build it and fuel it for you.

Extra benefits are that you can have a few stops preloaded in the schedule, such as some main place near the mall, and you can have it pre-painted in you choice of colors.

If you keep the loco on your hot bar, you can put the print there instead, while keeping it in the library rather than in your inventory.

hell no, i drive cargo trains, if my boss would see this working he would say that i can be at work as long i have fuel in inventory, no way

I just tested this and it does not work.
Ammo needs to be in the vehicle or it won't fire.
I do found something else very usefull tough, you can mine from inside a vehicle! So if you bump into one of those annoying rocks, you can mine them from your car and don't need to exit!

And if you run into one in your tank, you can blow the damn thing up!

You can blueprint trains with fuel. So if you have personal bots on you, you have two options:

Take the locomotive from inventory, place it, open the locomotive gui, go to the fuel tab, and fuel it, then ride along.

Or:
Do the obove once. Then blueprint the locomotive, and enable the "fuel in locomotives" option. Remove everything else from the blueprint. Put it into your BP library and pull it to the hotbar.

When you want to ride somewhere, take the blueprint, let the bots place the locomotive and put the fuel in. If you blueprint only 1 nuclear fuel or 10 rocket fuel, placement will be near instant, even with low-tech bots.

if you already have ammo in the vehicle's ammo slot(s), it will reload from your inventory - but not from the vehicle's inventory (or from your ammo slots)

You play a diffrent version than mine cuz it does not do that with me?
I tested it with the car (haven't unlocked the tank yet, so much stuff to do.)

if you are playing on a 2.x version, then it should - i just tested it to confirm (with the car)

but to be clear - it will not pull ammo by itself at first (which it will do with fuel) - but if you put any ammo in the vehicle ammo slot, it will then automatically pull more from your inventory when you start firing at enemies (e.g just put 1 clip in and it will reload as soon as you fire)

i was also mistaken - it will pull it from the vehicle's inventory, as well as your personal inventory

but to make it do it you have to be firing - you can use the "shoot selected" command to test it on trees or rocks, rather then getting close to enemies

anyway - it is working the way i described for me - and auto refuelling is new for 2.x - so i don't see how we could be on different versions

p.s. there when building remote elevated rails wich you cannot acces by foot you will find yourself quite often in a train wich you still have to fuel yourself. So i stay with my point that auto fueling trains when entering them simular to cars and tanks would be a good thing.
