how do you build in "bulk"?
what i mean is, i wanna save a particular positioning of furnace, inserts, electric pole, lamp and "save" it in a draft grid of sorts?

It's called blueprints. Either you use ctrl+c and ctrl+v to copy and insert somethign you buil tsomewhere else, or you use the blueprint button in the bottom right (no idea about its shortcut) to permanently save something as a blueprint, which you then can put into your blueprint library to have access to it even on other saves.

Either ctrl-c and ctrl-v for short term, or blueprint for long term. Do note you have to get construction bots for the ghosts placed by either option to actually be built, and that takes a couple hours on a fresh save.

Alt + B, IIRC
Just B by itself opens the blueprint library

There's ctrl c and then there's gridlock and it's odd sometimes Idk how it works. sometimes copying a blueprint needs to have it's dimensions -1, and then it fits together, you ahve to mess with it to get it right - you can pretty much do that with all blueprints, it's an easy way to build walls with different perimeter patterns, like checkerboard when you get it right, just keep messing around and it should work out. The gridlock option is in the left side of the blueprint page you create whne you do ctrl c and paste it into your inventory or your hub.

Alt+b causes you to have a blueprint while alt+u signals for upgrading and alt+d marks things for deletion - deletion also pauses machinery and belts. in some cases holding ctrl+ inverts the behavior (works with upgrading) while holding shift cancels whatever was queued. Plans can be turned into actual items to fine tune their behaviour, such as having a deletion plan that only affects belts or an upgrade plan that turns yellow inserters into the green ones without changing anything else that you select with it.

You can also bundle these things into books. Pressing 'b' can open up your blueprint storage which is account wide and may feature blueprints that were used in the game, which is specially useful in multiplayer.

Until you get access to construction bots the feature will mostly serve as a guideline or placeholder though there's still other uses such as copying over settings (which can be done on a per-building basis by right clicking the source then shift clicking the target). Blueprints' contents can be edited.

no wonder I'm finding the game unnecessarily long. the lack of actual copy-paste building sucks so bad.

Remember when placing blueprints, or pasting (which are just temporary blueprints), you can force them with shift, or shift-control. Shift will destroy things like trees that are in the way. Shift-control will completely replace anything you've built as well. And the game now will automagically add underground belts around whatever you're forcing in, which is the nicest QoL feature in the game with 2.0.

so what exactly do I do? let's say I'm trying to copy 10 lane transporters
mrxak Nov 15, 2024 @ 4:43am
Just Control-C, Control-V

nothings happening on control v i'm just getting an error sound(?)

also i need tricks to this game since I'm so not optimizing. mostly the treadmill. say a treadmill is transporting stone and coal but I at some point i want to split the stone (i do have the splitter).

You can even shift-scrollwheel after Control-V to choose between your copied temp blueprints.

Don't put multiple items onto the same belt unless you really have to.

For first, you cant just copy and paste to build, it can be builded only with robots (and early game painful here). But it still makes ghosts that can be used for planning anything what you need.
ctrl-c to enter *copy mode*, (or alt + b if you no need just copy and paste but save this for future as blueprint), hold mouse and select what you wanna copy - you got entities under cursor.
Click where you need them, or click to hotbar to save it as blueprint (its pretty helpture if you need replace or move some entities)

Here are some simple gifs for factory design

What do you mean? The copy paste works great in my oppinion. Sure, you do need construction robots to get that part up and running, but once you have that you can really start to scale up. I'd say this is a requirement before going off planet too so that you can have robots work for you remotely when you are off planet.

Well, Ctrl-C, and then you can drag a box around what you want to copy and then place it with the mouse as many times as you like. Now, if you don't have robots then you will only get ghosts placed on the ground (you will if you have robots too, but then the robots will come flying with the require material assuming you have them in storage).

I am struggling for hours on this setup and I can't get it to work

https://imgur.com/a/tbiuWMk

top left: iron plate. to be converted to pipe and gear
bottom left: engine. it will need the converted iron plate from top left. steel is "free" at the bottom.
problem: i can't seem to get it to work. the pipe will always clog at the middle right.
