It's not going on sale, and you wouldn't like it;P

Read some reviews or watch some videos. Or play the demo.

No sales, sorry (see sticky about this to learn the devs opinion on this).
The only regular way I see to get it a bit cheaper is when you've a Humble Bundle choice discount (20%, that means you've a Humble Choice subscription and running for some time).

But why is it good? Hard to describe, but in short, it's simply addicting to start with nearly nothing and than build your first factory, and you go bigger and bigger and even bigger.

Refer to pinned post for when it goes on sale. https://steamcommunity.com/app/427520/discussions/0/2592234299545022370/

Play the demo to see if you'll like it.

Looks like my poor ass won't be buying this game any time soon, thanks guys

Maybe your poor ass can buy the base version of the game and see if you like it and then move on to space age. Set some money to the side every month and save up.

In the meantime, pay the free demo.

In all seriousness. I wish you the best. If $35 is too much then absolutely spend the money on something else, but the price is fair. For me Factorio saves money as I'm not out having beer in stead.

Another way of looking at it: According to Steam, I've played it for 750 hours in total since buying it way back in the dark days of 2018. Granted, some of that would have been tabbed out doing other stuff, but still, it's an insane amount of time to have spend on any one computer game. And I've only just got to space on Space Age, so heck knows how many hours of that I have left.

I mean, sale or not, if I break that down in terms of $ / hour, it basically approaches 0 on a per hour basis.

But, and this is the beautiful thing, that's also 750 hours that I haven't been tempted to buy other games. Which means, the initial outlay probably represents a net saving, compared to if I hadn't bought it!

Agreed with above. You can still try the demo to see if you vibe with this type of game. After that it's basically a no brainer because yeah it's more expensive than most indie games on Steam but it DEFINITELY WILL catch your attention for way longer than some AAA games which makes it worth it in the long run.

To be fair, they are playing Path of Exile, so they probably already have a game that takes up most of their time.

because the factory must grow

Just a note to be wary of what you're getting yourself into if you do get it at some point. This game has a steep learning curve and can feel overwhelming at times. I'm personally taking a new approach of making multiple smaller factories instead of one big factory. I'll be linking them up later (probably after I unlock bots). I also stopped rushing the research tree and only research things when they are about to become relevant.

That's why there's a free demo - go find out for yourself. None of us can tell you if the game is going to "click" with you or not, all we can say is that it did for all of us.
