Gleba defence
Gleba's harsh. 5 hours in and i've barely set up some iron and copper plate automation. I need to start defending my base, but i just checked that most turrets are either useless, cannot be used or are just way too expensive. Lasers are useless against pentapods, no oil so no flamethrowers, tesla requires way too much energy considering you can only reliably use steam engines on gleba and the rocket turret seems way too expensive too (though i haven't even researched it yet). Gun turret seems okay, though the stompers have great physical damage resistance... Any advice? Don't want to mess this up, knowing how unforgiving Gleba is.

Use Steam Turbines instead of Steam engines on Gleba. Heating towers that you use to get rid of spoilage are really easy to use when combined with turbines for easy power. Then you just load up tesla's, set your target prios and forget about it.
tesla for the big guys and gun turrets for the small and rangers works wonder if you only use tesla then you have the problem that you could fry your own defence because the chain lightning doesnt differentiate from enemy or friends.....

I had the best luck with tesla towers. I came in with a ton of solar and accumulators, but I don't think that's necessary. The heating tower more than doubles the energy you get from burnt fuel and rocket fuel is fairly cheap on Gleba. You can store steam in tanks and build extra turbines to handle short bursts of very high energy.

Damn i was so focused on clearing the spoilage with heating towers that i completely forgot that they produce heat for the steam turbines. That's Gleba for ya. Thanks i'll try the teslas then.

Build away from your agricultural towers. Pentapods are attracted to the spores generated by the towers, so keeping your base away from the spore cloud will prevent a lot of attacks. So will clearing out the bases in range of your spore cloud.

For active combat, Tanks do massive damage with their main cannon, if you use the regular shells. I don't know how effective the explosive ones are; it would depend on whether they multi-hit the enemies.

Regarding power production, Biochambers don't require any electricity. If you smelt using Steel Furnaces, you don't actually use much power at all for agriculture and iron/copper plate production. And you can make plenty of Rocket Fuel to burn in your boilers -- or just use Jellynut, if you have enough processing to keep your seed supply healthy. Heating Towers actually multiply the fuel value, but it requires setting up heat pipes/exchangers and steam turbines.

(and if you're burning spoilage... note that you double the fuel value if you process it into carbon first)

Also, once you get research going... note that you can make oil locally on Gleba. Once you get Coal Synthesis, you can manufacture coal. So if you just import a little bit of heavy oil, you can use Coal Liquefaction to make more oil. Alternatively, you can get things started with Simple Coal Liquefaction, if you have access to it (and drop some calcite from orbit).

All stompers have 2/50% phys res so they're still susceptible to being shot, though you'll need more turrets and with better ammo so set up ammo, turrets and repair packs.
Killing their egg rafts is also a good idea.

Setting up the most basic plastic and sulfur production can get you key things such as red circuits for tank production or tank shells.

Do remember to build your processing on the stony high ground.

After I've got the essential science exported, the spores cloud got too big because of production, so I got stomped by the stompers. I left the planet alone, focused on the other planets, crafted an epic mech armor, so the small creeps don't do damage and have recently returned to Gleba. My main focus is crafting carbon fibre for the rocket towers and building a huge wall with 10k green belt imported from Vulcanus feeding rocket, gun and tesla- turrets. When the wall is built I'll clear everything inside with a tank maybe.

i started surrounding my base with simple uncommon gun turrets feeded with yellow ammo, upgrading the ammo to red ammo and the turrets to rare short after. Regarding power, that was easy. Started with a bunch of solar/battery mix to reach the heating tower, then i planned and built a small steam power plant with 160MW of heating energy. That was my starter after a few hours on Gleba. Quite easy.
After i started researching with agricultural science i planned and built a 640MW Heating power plant and hooked it up with logics to control the usage of rocket fuel so it don't waste precious materials. Set the lower temp limit to 570°C for a single rocket fuel to be inserted into each of the heating towers when dropping below that to keep the system alive and ready to smoke asap if needed.

After all i hate Gleba because of the spolings, but that's just a game mechanic to live with. I'm glad Gleba doesn't got much stuff to export after all.

Also, if unnoticed, artillery towers do shoot away the nests on Gleba too, so you don't have to hassle to much with spores. I placed one in each of my 4 base-corners and had no struggle with mobs after that. But i'm just in mid game rn.

The gleba enemies don't really do all that much damage except to buildings so you can kind of cheese them by placing tanks with high shield regen in front of your defenses and let them literally just tank them.

Have finally secured my base with 1400 gun turrets, 1200 rocket towers, 300 tesla towers, 10k belts, 1k roboports. I chose two nuclear power plants because the tesla towers and roboports take 500 MW not even doing much. I did all the carbon fibre for the rocket towers with Yamako only, I hope I can now start emitting the jellynut spores also and start exporting.

Tesla turrets work especially well against stompers, they slow them down and do a lot of damage because the current "jumps" between their legs, multiplying damage. Heating towers, heating exchangers and turbines should be enough to keep them energized. (Unlike lasers, they require a lot of energy even when idle, so that's their downside I guess.)

Probably a crazy question, but now I wonder if there's a way to only connect them to power when enemies are near somehow.

Personally I'm trying to use artillery/lasers. I think wandering nest making groups are small enough lasers should stop them and artillery can keep the nests from growing. Not fully set up yet though, gotta work on my utility space fleet. Planning to make a modest design and just produce a bunch to cruise back and forth and import/export/collect calcite to drop.

On Gleba the best defense is unrelenting offense.
Also don't put your base anywhere near a wet area or your farms. They can't make nests on dry ground and only target things near the spore source
