Without anything, it is hard to tell since it could be anything from server issues to problems on your end.
What I don't understand is that the #system always shows the updates and I can update the mods.....
It means that the servers cut the connection when too many requests are sent in a short period of time.
It is often linked to the usage of a VPN, since all requests from people using the same VPN have the same public IP, but it can also be the result of a DDoS attack that happened at the same time.
If you are not using a VPN, there is not much you can do about this other than maybe telling the devs that it happens, either on their forum or through the support e-mail found here (the page also has a link to their forum):

Such errors are usually very fleeting and temporary, a minute or two of wait should fix it in the vast majority of cases.
