Main menu -> Mods
Select Space Age.
(It will automatically turn on any/all dependencies for any mod, to that's enough.)
Click 'Confirm'
After the game reloads, play.
When i go to the mods section i only see base mod 2.0.28
Nothing else
On Steam at least, they are activated by default the first time you launch the game after downloading the game and/or DLC and it will clearly say so in the loading screen and title screen.
Note that with the DLC you should have access to an updated client, steam takes care of that but not sure how it works on GoG.
I bought the base game, installed n Then bought the dlc.
When i go to mods i see the base mod, but when i press the explore tab it tells me to register somewhere. I hope thats not the issue. I dont want to make accounts to random things. The dlc should work without registering at the factorio website, right?
Ah wait. I restarted GOG and it started installing something, i guess that was the issue xD
I love GOG but the service isnt quite on par with steam. Yet.
The registration is with WUBE, where the mods are hosted. One of the few things they've done to discourage sailing the seas.
I'm not sure how GOG works, but with Steam the game auto-connects with the mod server and your Steam login is enough to access the mods through the game. I would expect the same behavior with GOG if the game connects with your GOG account. (Steam's version of the game files includes their own DRM-style hooks, GOG probably does as well.)
Gotcha thx. Im not really into mods so i think il learn the vanilla game n dlc first. The reason i got it on gog is i want to actually own the game. Download the files and have them backed up on HDDs. I like knowing im not just renting a game license and i dont even need to be online to install my main games. For a second there i was worried i have to register online before i could play the dlc but thats cleared up i guess. Now... lets get to growing that factory. Wish me luck!
Your luck is already pretty good. Things are better than you expected,
Now that you have the own the game you should also be able connect to the WUBE site and download any of the older versions of the game and install them. Or, more important for some games, install the stand-alone version from WUBE and never have to update it.
(With WUBE's way you could have done the same thing on Steam, of course. Courtesy of WUBE not Steam.)
But, for the game itself, vanilla is the way to go at first. True of any game which isn't unplayable w/o mods (some are that bad, but very few). I mean, how are you supposed to know what mods make the game 'better' if you don't know what the game is like to begin with? After the first play through, maybe add mods if you "need" them, but maybe none are needed.
I'm of a mixed mind on your first game. I'd normally recommend playing the base game and getting the expansion once you know you like the game enough to want more. You already have it. It might be something to consider playing without the expansion first. There second half of the game is different in the base game than it is in the expansion. Having played to victory in the base game you will be in a better position to appreciate, and maybe understand, the extra mechanics of the expansion.
It's your call, however. Play it your way.
What do i lose if i dont play the game without the DLC? I just dont appreciate the grind as much because the rocket can be built a bit earlier? How much faster do we get the rocket with space age?
You get to the rocket about 30-40% faster.
It's their money at the end of the day, and GoG like any other platform still only sells licenses (even if being able to backup the game files on an external drive is nice), but for Factorio in particular he didn't need to pay extras like that.
Wasn't that limited to when buying directly from them?
