For those who are into this kind of game it's an absolute masterpiece.
You can check out the demo to see if it's something for you. Or get it, try it for <2 hours and refund if you don't like it.
More science pack types, more items, more techs in the full game.
EDIT: Oh and no need to buy both the game and the DLC at first. You can dump 100's if not 1,000's of hours in the base game. I was at 2.8k hours before buying the DLC. Also, you don't save a penny by buying them both right now. You lose nothing by waiting. Might just save you $35 in the end, if the base game was enough for you.
Second trying the demo - it's kinda a tutorial but i think the last level is a bit more open
would we both like this game?
EDIT: Er, you, whichever was which
The buy page for Factorio on factorio.com also states a 28 day refund guarantee (if you buy it from Factorio.com), although the TOS says there are specific issues the refund has to be based on. So might be caveat emptor there.
Hmm. If exploring is a big thing for you, then I don't know, Factorio does not make exploring that interesting. You still have to explore to find new resources, and knowing your surroundings is nice to plan a base/defense, but you won't find chest filled with random alien artefacts put there to help you progress. Nor slugs used as modules.
I can only imagine some mods would put more emphasis on exploring though. And Factorio mod support is second to none I'd say.
your friend might have a much better experience than you then. This game, in terms of automation, makes you think a lot more compared to satisfactory. You probably heard this before but it's pretty much similar to programming, having to deal with constant problem solving but for great rewards. I recommend you DO NOT CHECK any tutorial or tips and tricks, figure things out on your own, thats the real exerpience, you and your friend will feel so good when you do trust me.
While satisfactory is more inclined to exploration, this game is more focused on base defense (depending on what world settings you have). You will still need to go outside of your base to find more ressources and clear enemy bases but yeah.
And for the DLC (expansion), if money is a problem to you then maybe just start with the base game. Tbh the expansion adds so much content i think its like 70 hours on its own, while the base game was only 50 hours.
This game averages more players than satisfactory for a reason you know
