No need to get the DLC as a new player. It's specifically for players who already have mastered the base game and are in for a new challenge.

For those who are into this kind of game it's an absolute masterpiece.

You can check out the demo to see if it's something for you. Or get it, try it for <2 hours and refund if you don't like it.

If money is a factor, you should both try the free demo first. It's nowhere as good as the full game, but if you can have some fun with the demo, you'll love the full game. Just know that in freeplay mode in the full game, there are no objectives as in the demo. You just start with a furnace and a drill and do whatever you feel like doing. The map is practically infinite. And the game settings can be customised a lot. You could play without enemies at all. Or make them tougher. Or make iron so common, it'll always be close. Or make it so rare that it could create problems if you are not careful.

More science pack types, more items, more techs in the full game.

EDIT: Oh and no need to buy both the game and the DLC at first. You can dump 100's if not 1,000's of hours in the base game. I was at 2.8k hours before buying the DLC. Also, you don't save a penny by buying them both right now. You lose nothing by waiting. Might just save you $35 in the end, if the base game was enough for you.

i meant as in gifting it to my my friend not buying the dlc cause he does not want to spend all that money for a game right now

It's good, but it's not necessarily for everyone.

Second trying the demo - it's kinda a tutorial but i think the last level is a bit more open

we both like satisfactory but i specifically liked to explore and finding new things while my friend liked to make the stuff i found into factories that were as automated as possible
would we both like this game?

Mmm there isn't really much exploring unlike satisfactory, so that could be an issue. Factory building is better IMO but that might not be enough for them

EDIT: Er, you, whichever was which

Might want to look into buying it from GOG, as I think they often have a better refund policy than Steam (just don't abuse it). And AFAIK if you end up liking the game enough to want to use Steam for all of it you can connect the GOG account to a Factorio.com account and get a Steam key for it, so you have three ways to access it, from what I understand. See (You have to copy this and paste it into your browser, as Steam doesn't handle & in URLs properly)

The buy page for Factorio on factorio.com also states a 28 day refund guarantee (if you buy it from Factorio.com), although the TOS says there are specific issues the refund has to be based on. So might be caveat emptor there.

Hmm. If exploring is a big thing for you, then I don't know, Factorio does not make exploring that interesting. You still have to explore to find new resources, and knowing your surroundings is nice to plan a base/defense, but you won't find chest filled with random alien artefacts put there to help you progress. Nor slugs used as modules.

I can only imagine some mods would put more emphasis on exploring though. And Factorio mod support is second to none I'd say.

I'm gonna give a third  to the demo. Both of you can work on it, and in the last 2 levels you can also go multiplayer and see if the two of you like playing it as a team.

your friend might have a much better experience than you then. This game, in terms of automation, makes you think a lot more compared to satisfactory. You probably heard this before but it's pretty much similar to programming, having to deal with constant problem solving but for great rewards. I recommend you DO NOT CHECK any tutorial or tips and tricks, figure things out on your own, thats the real exerpience, you and your friend will feel so good when you do trust me.

While satisfactory is more inclined to exploration, this game is more focused on base defense (depending on what world settings you have). You will still need to go outside of your base to find more ressources and clear enemy bases but yeah.

And for the DLC (expansion), if money is a problem to you then maybe just start with the base game. Tbh the expansion adds so much content i think its like 70 hours on its own, while the base game was only 50 hours.

This game averages more players than satisfactory for a reason you know :cuphead:
you should at least try the demo

Wait to get the DLC until you beat the base game and know you like it. If you have the right kind of itch, Factorio is an exceptional game that you can play happily for thousands of hours, so the value is absolutely there. BUT, you should play the demo to see if it could be for you first. It's great but not everyone's cup of tea

This is literally what reviews and demos are for.
