It's pretty similar to how post-rocket was in the base game, just with a bit of an extra challenge for acquiring the holmium (since you need a rather strong platform).
Just like infinite technologies in the base game, if you want to progress further and further you will need to keep increasing the scale of your factory, including the platforms (number and speed) being sent to farm the shattered planet's asteroids.
Usually when you get bored of this, you go for a new game using a different style or for mods (although a bit limited in your selection for a while for 2.0 and space age) or go for a different game for a few weeks/months until the factorio itch starts to get serious again.
