Which do you prefer, yellow rockets or red rockets?
Yellow rockets seem to do more damage to a single target, but red rockets have aoe damage.

For now, I do not see any use of red rockets in space, so only yellow ones for now.
For battle on lands, red are getting better the more you advance in their damage tech tree. But even then they are mostly not used due to them being a threat to your own buildings. Though in fully hostile environment they shine much better then yellow on tech 16+.

My preference depends on intended target(s).

I haven't made it to rockets yet but using a tank I find piercing rounds more effective than explosive rounds.

Odd you have the tank before rockets, rockets don't need blue sci and are cheaper to research and make.

might have meant the rocket turret

I hear that ships legitimately reaching the shattered planet use red rockets instead of yellow rockets to clear the wall of asteroids.

Red ones are only needed for reaching shattered planet imo. Their splash damage really reduce needed "turret" count and also ammo usage. Still, for collecting prometheus, it would be nice to have 2-3 quality turret with red^^

Red rockets would be good on the way out to the edge too... if it weren't for the fact that the turrets can't predict splash damage, and so they still usually wind up firing enough rockets to kill everything.

You can't legitimately reach the shattered planet.
You can only pass a certain distance after which point the density curve followed for generating asteroids while en-route to the shattered planet, craps itself and almost all asteroids disappear.

Yeah maybe but with only enough upgrades (10+, at least 15 for me), after that still frequency is lower than far places of the galaxy, so you will be spending more "resources" than just yellows maybe. Their usage is only justified with enough damage and amount of close rocks... their damage is significantly lower than yellow.

Pretty much always yellow.

Consider the use cases:

Nauvis defense turrets: honestly neither IMO but flamethrowers are so good aoe anyway it seems a waste to use aoe rockets

Gleba defense turrets: you actively don't want the aoe rockets blowing up your own stuff killing the junk spawned by a stomper

Vulcanus turrets: I guess maybe you can do more to a demolisher with the aoe ones? Not sure on this but probably not the best way to deal with them

Space defense turrets: aoe is wasted anywhere but shattered planet

Personal rockets: I guess you could argue for having some around for this, but I find it's better as a high damage stomper killer since tanks are hard to use on Gleba
