What's the difference between the Space Age DLC vs the Space mods?
I don't have that much experience with the Space mod pack and plan to get the DLC in the future. But I am really curious in what the differences are and if the mod pack works in enhancing the DLC.

Nero Jan 31 @ 12:28am
SE (mod) = a lot more grind/upscaling with some obtuse workflows
SA (dlc) = a more streamlined experience but „less“ progression

Afaik, SE is not updated to 2.0 so its not compatible with SA right now

AFAIK SE will not be made compatible with SA at all. It will be updated to 2.0

still nice that they got the guy on the team that made the mod to help with the expansion i understand why he doesn't want to make SE compatible he would probably need to change so much for Se to be integrated properly

I think it has only a little to do with the work to make SE compatible with SA which has him deciding not to make it happen. It's probably more that SE and SA in gameplay design are on different roads. The complexity in SE is by design and the reduced complexity in SA is by design. SA is intended to be 'short' (relative to other massive overhaul mods anyway) while SE is intended to be long, and even the byproducts and other stuff which many call 'grindy' is intentional. Making SE compatible with SA would remove much of what makes SE great for its fans.

Edit: The fans of SE does not include me, and never will. I'm not even sure I'm a fan of SA yet. SE (and most of the big overhaul mods) targets a play style which is not my style. SA may even get too close to that, if not over the line, for my tastes.

They are completely different things that are different in pretty much every way other than they both involve visiting other planets. They are not related/comparable in general.

I thought the plan was for SE to eventually be made compatible with SA, whereas Krastorio2 isn't going to be compatible with SA due to balance reasons, but SE could have gone the KA2 route while I wasn't looking.

Edit: Checking the discord, there's consideration for SE to incorporate some SA DLC features (like platforms), but not necessarily for the two to be fully integrated like a big combo modpack. Either way, any integration is a ways off.

When I looked into it in the past, (Pre space age dlc release) I read that the Dev made space exploration the mod, so it was kind of like practice and the way they summarized it was what Nero said.
SE slower
SA more aproachable for a wider audience

I'm pretty deep in a SE run solo and at times it is almost painfully slow. Def would have built my space base differently if I knew what I know now
