It's been years and Factorio still has no propper mouse move :(
I played the ♥♥♥♥ out of this game years ago. The WASD movement is what annoyed me the most. Coming from decades of playing D2 it always felt off. Luckily there aren't too many isometric games that rely solely on it.
Now I wanted to come back to Factorio and it still has no proper mouse move :((( kinda disappointed.

Why can't I hold LMB and point in the direction I want to walk and the guy walks? Same for shooting, instead we have this awkward click on enemy to shot it mechanic.

I've searched for mods but found nothing. The only mod is a click to move mod which is even more awkward :(

Because it's a mouse-reliant game and trying to use mouse to walk you are doing yourself an incredible disservice. It's like asking why there is no LMB to walk in a shooter.

And no, you do not have to click on enemy, you have a "shoot the closest enemy" button.

Both for the same reason - walking and shooting is (sooner or later) optional, using your mouse for other things is not.

You just press space and it will automatically lock onto and fire on whatever is the closest hostile. No clicking involved.

I'm with you OP. Not being able to walk in a game is purely a bad design decision, laziness and pandering to those so impatient that they find it necessary to run (no matter how immersion breaking that is) every where.

Personally I find "click to move" way worse for controlling a character

Aside from using keyboard to move the engineer around, there are many other keyboard shortcuts that are big time savers.

https://wiki.factorio.com/Tutorial:Keyboard_shortcuts

"q" key (pippete tool) is one of my favorites. Then of course are the Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V or Ctrl-X (and LMB) for copy/paste and cut/paste and the Ctrl-LMB/Ctrl-RMB for fast inventory transfers.

Couldn't imagine the pain of trying to play this game with mouse-only -- but mods are provided if you must.

You make your OP like there was ever a plan to work on mouse movement. I'm not aware of any such thing. Has anyone -- e.g. you -- even made a feature request for it on Wube's forums?

By using trains as shuttles or spidertrons, you can add mouse movement :)

That's even worse!.

You know any LMB to move game has stuff you can click on. The two things are not mutually exclusive...

Thanks I tried the first mod already and it's not what I'm looking for. Do you know how Kruise kontrol works? It sounds like it is another click to move mod.

Well I'm glad you can enjoy the game to the fullest. I would like to, too. Mouse move would make walking around much more intuitive for me. And fighting and aiming more challenging and action packed, too.

It's likely just a straight port from controller up/down/left/right directly translates to WASD. Mouse move on the other hand needs different code. However I'd guess most PC games use mouse move. Path of Exile for example offers both if I remember correctly.

Indeed. Mouse move requires a pathfinding algorithm, and all you are doing is giving it a destination. Seeing as the game already has pathfinding for the enemies, and it's rather bad, I'm not sure I want to be relying on it for my own character.

Uhmm... Factorio is a PC-first game.
It was designed from the get-go with WASD movement, intended as such.
The console port for the Switch came well after.

You claim that:

So which is it?
Either you know that the game was originally designed like this; or you didn't actually play this game years ago...

top tier laziness lmao op
Use spidertron lol
Navin Jan 27 @ 4:41pm
Mouse move as a accessibility feature would be nice, there can be multiple reasons for that need, not just "laziness".
Diablo III & IV are the only games I've ever played with mouse move, I am not a fan of mouse movement. every other PC game I've played for the past 25 years uses WASD, it is way more common than mouse movement. I'm not opposed to adding mouse movement as like an accessibility option maybe but I'm not sure about how many people actually need something like this to devote dev time to adding it in.
