Venting About Cliffs
I truly hate cliffs. They've got to be the most useless addition to any game I can recall in recent memory. In the past, at least, you had cliff explosives to deal with the damned things in case you forgot to uncheck the stupid box at world creation.

However, they recently decided to put cliff explosives behind science packs from another planet. (WTF?? WHY??) So, I'm ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stuck in my save with 25 hours into it, now faced with either starting a new ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ save or dealing with this supreme annoyance.

Next time, maybe they'll just add the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing as an in-game purchase. Get your cliff explosives for $50! I'd be happy to pay for the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ things rather than have to start over or work around them.

Solve the problem the super easy way. Use a mod, temporarily.

Find the mod you want, which gives you cliff explosives as easy as you want. Load that mod, get the cliff explosives, clean up the cliffs which are in your way.
Save the game, remove the mod, reload the game and continue playing.

Once you uninstall the mod you'll be back to where you were relative to achievements - if you were getting them on Steam, you will again, and if you weren't you sill won't. The cliffs on the rest of the map will still be there. Everyone will see you beautiful designs and think you either got real luck with the cliffs or you are super brilliant and built around them perfectly.

If, later, they get in the way again, reload the mod, rinse and repeat.

Now you can spend less time in the forum "venting" and spend more time on Nauvis to display your wonderful skills and high-level planning abilities. Screenshots shared with your friends can even prove how smart you are. (But, they probably already know that. Right?)
Cliffs were actually essential to my early base - free walls, natural chokepoints - much easier to defend. The few that were in the way were easy to hop with early underground belts.

Then disable then in world generation, why so much drama for a simple option you can simply disable?

The cliffs are an improved mechanic in the DLC. You should love them because they were updated by the developers.

As per par, not on point at all. Sarcasm is less entertaining when dripping from fangs.

You should love cliffs if they make the game more fun or the challenges more interesting.
You should turn off cliffs if they don't.
You should like the changes in 2.0 if they make cliffs better for you than they were.
If you like cliffs, and don't like the changes in 2.0, then you have a problem.

I have half a problem. I liked the cliffs in 1.1, even though they were only sometimes useful for defense. I like the improvements in their placement in 2.0. Much better for defense and still look nice on the map - mostly. I don't like how the game generates them now. There seems to be less control available to fine-tune them in the map gen settings. I don't know how it works 'under the hood' but they are now more closely coupled with the rest of the map gen settings than they were in 1.1 and setting an "interesting" map is much more difficult.

I still like the cliffs and have no more, or less, desire to remove them in 2.0 than I did 1.1.

Atomic bomb will take out cliffs and doesn't require a trip to another planet. Expensive, but could be viable if you've just got a small annoying outcrop in your way.
Ive been playing since before they were added, now I just turn them off. Its fine on Vulcanus if you go to Fulgora first.
You hate cliffs, I get that, me too.

So, you start a new game, literally on world creation, un-tick cliffs. But, you forgot, even though you hate cliffs with a passion. (I've done that too)

Then, 2 mins into your new game, oh crap, cliffs, I forgot to turn them off, restart.

No, you proceed to play with your cliffs for 25 hours like a dumbo, then you get all salty and come to rant on the forums.

Suffer son, your bad.

my ever growing supply of 20,000 U-235 would say otherwise, its currently cheaper then shipping the calcite for cliff crackers.

Y'know on the subject on nukes, i was looking through the ingame pedia and i noticed that irradiated land doesn't absorb pollution, so if you're concerned about pollution maybe don't fire nukes all over.
But to be fair at that point it no longer matters.

Later in the game you can get calcite for free on space platforms and drop it to Nauvis for free also. In fact, you could probably have had that faster than it took you to stockpile 20,000 U-235.

In the new map generation you will most likely not see any cliffs in the first few dozen hours, they are so few and far away that might as well pretend they don't exist. I much prefer the old generation where you could build around the cliffs, can't do that anymore.
