And yet none of the people complaining about that error actually bought the game or changed their reviews back to what it was, they were complaining just for the sake of it.

1k RUB = 18 USD.

Once the devs make an announcement clearly and unambiguously indicating the price change to 10k as a mistake (as opposed to an attempt at peremoga that, as usual, ended with zrada), I will change my review.

Some of the people complaining bought the game years ago, though.

It is still almost twice of what it was and it is really unfortunate that the devs tried to pull this stunt in the first place. Very disappointing.

There's indirect information implying that somebody tried to do this on purpose as political statement. No official statement has been made.

But whatever. It is comparable to cultivation simulator in pricing now, but more expensive than satisfactory or dyson's sphere. Not sure if this sort of pricing is at the right place, but that's not my problem.. There's also mindustry, which is even cheaper but is something else entirely.

Wait 2 weeks then price hike again, make it come down fast and randomly, hitting multiple people with terror just the way Russian artillery works.

Because there was no official statement saying that it was a mistake, people have a good reason to suspect a failed political statement. For many russians this sort of political stunt is a strong reason to review to negative and blacklist all future products of the developer, even if the price is later reduced.

Honestly, Wube did a huge blunder. And lack of communication isn't helping.

The reverse also applies. There was no official statement denying it was a mistake either.
Ever heard of Hanlon's Razor?
"Never attribute to malice, that which is adequately explained by stupidity."

Wube doesn't apply fractional pricing; believing it to be anti-consumer, so they went in and set a nice rounded price for each individual currency, that corresponds to 30 USD at current exchange rates - lowered to compensate for lower income, for some.
All prices were changed. Not just the price in ruble.

For rubles it was supposed to be 1000, but someone entered 10000. Oops. One zero too many. That's a classic off-by-one mistake.

And the reason it stuck around for as long as it did, is that Steam doesn't allow you to change prices and then quickly change them again. There's a cooldown timer applied.

That said; if anyone bought the game at 10,000 rubles; Valve considers a recent price-change a valid issue to refund over. If you've played less than 2hrs, you can refund and then buy again at the new, corrected price.

Hanlon's Razor does not apply in this case.

There are multiple developers that greatly increased price for russia. The record at the moment is a 2017 game with two reviews which is currently priced at $52600 for Russia only, while costing $0.9 or less everywhere else.

Because of the past statements made by the factorio devs, it would not be surprising if they joined this camp. And that's why it would be a good idea to have an official statement.

Also, "malice"? People doing this stuff are going to be sincerely thinking this is for the greater good, love and puppies.

those are all games that has only handful of players and very few if none russian players, so they had no risk of getting backlash or lose income (since there was no income in the first place). in factorio case there is probably tens of thousands of russian players and i don't see why they would intentionally ruin their reputation and lose money in the process. they already have high reputation in the west so its not likely any kind of PR stunt either.

Yes, and? Someone wanted a PR stunt, got backlash, and hastily reversed the decision. That's what it looks like.

For example:
"In the name of free world, democracy, greater good, and to show our support to the victim of unjust agression, and to stand against this horrific war etc". Or something along those lines.

People are not reasonable or logical, they often act on feelings and when they do the decisions can be irrational and illogical or even self-destructive. The post of supposed factorio dev on joyreactor doesn't help either.

This does look like a failed political stunt. Due to lack of proof, I'm only about 60% certain it was this sort of stunt, and not 100%. So there's a room for doubt. Lack of communication fro the developers, however, isn't helping at all.

The lack of communication is troubling. I kinda still remember long and personalized messages from before the full release, explaining what was planned, improved, etc. The situation is the one that needed official response, and lack of it makes me wonder if the devs moved on with their lives and left other people to manage the game. But time will tell I guess.
