Anyone else really like buffer chests?
I like using them in my malls. I have the output inserter for each assembler read the logistic network (and never fill the buffer chest), and then the buffer chest requests a ridiculous number, so my excess inventory always finds its way back to the mall no matter where I dump it.

you could always use storage chests with filters, and not have anything else have that filter

I like all of the chests. I have trains that are set up to recycle (like If I'm dismantling an outpost because the ore patch has been used up) Those trains empty into active provider chests.

I have a huge network of unfiltered storage chests near the recycle unloading station. I have requester chests set up to get the stone, coal, and wood from dismantling set to input it into my rails makers for purple science and the coal goes into the grenade makers for the military science packs.

I use buffer chests to request materials for my supplies trains and artillery trains and my main production empties into passive provider chests so every thing gets used up in the correct order. (Recycled materials get used before items in the passive provider chests.)

I like to use Buffer Chests for some mall items, and Storage Chests filtered to the item for other items.

Buffer Chests for things that are used in other things, such as Yellow Belts/Undergrounds/Splitters, yellow Inserters, Red Belts/Undergrounds/Splitters, etc. If I want the excess to be pulled from Storage Chests to the Buffer Chest for both availability and for use in the next item in the chain, then its a Buffer Chest.

If its an end product (Chemical Plants, Rails, Assembly Machine 3, Lab, Medium Power Poles, etc.) then it gets a Storage Chest.

My only issue with buffer chests. when you create a rule, you can only create one per item. That request has a limit of 2^32 items. I want the buffer chests in storage (sorry mall and hub are improper names to me, it's storage) to request every single item in the network that isn't in a requester chest or on my person.

No matter the choice. It becomes tedious to create the logistic network. The requester chests are well done, shift-right click on the building, shift-left click on the requester chest and you got 30 seconds requested. That could be improved. By allowing a input in the requester chest of the number of seconds or the flat quantity you want.

For buffer chests, I just want it to request everything that the building I shift-right click outputs. They don't. That does the same thing as requester chests above. That's incorrect in what buffer chests are most useful for. I should also be able to shift-right click to copy the items on a belt and shift-left click to paste them as a request in chests as well.

EDIT: Yes, I replaced all yellow chests with buffer chests in storage. The filters on the inserters limit the production. But if I take from that chest, then tell robots to remove it from my inventory, then I'm forced to have a yellow chest setup for every single item in the game and make sure all yellow chests have a filter. That's too much work. Buffer chests save time.
