Is Iron more scarce on Nauvis with Space Age?
I found about 15 copper nodes with many millions of copper before I finally found a node with iron.

That is just rng. If 5 million people flip a coin 16 times more than one will get 15 tails in a row.

Iron is fine for me.
Sounds like absolutely terrible RNG on your side or else you moved a slider without realising it when creating the world. What is it called again, map string? You could export and check that, just to see if it's not due to the game settings.

I'd be curious to see a map view of that, if it's just RNG, sounds amazing in a bad way. Sorry for finding your misfortune amazing. Oops.

The 'missing' resources are often due to them being placed on a dry map and then the elevation settings are adjusted for water and terrain. Usually, if you take a map with some resource missing, or very rare, and turn off water so the only blue spot is the starter lake, you will find all the missing materials. Turn the water back on and you can see they are not 'placed' under water, and not available any longer.

I'm only counting what's on Nauvis within 50 chunks reach from starting point (summary)
Iron - ~400M
Copper - ~130M
What scarce you say? )

What's your map seed number?

Better to ask for the map exchange string, to make sure all the other settings are the same too.

See, mine was the other way around - enough iron, but copper was a little scarce.

Guess it must be RNG messing with us.

In this case the seed is enough. Use it without water, then with water, and the difference will become plain - regardless of the resource settings.
The exchange string would be better, but the seed is easier for anyone to find: console type
/seed
done.

My Space Age seed has smaller and denser patches of the resources than I expected. If typical I wonder if they tweaked that to encourage to use of the upgraded miners for higher throughput on the smaller patches.

Could just be bad luck.

The seed is 1402952680

I tried that seed.
In map preview, without moving the map around and centred on the starting area, I can see:
4 iron patches
5 copper patches

2 of those iron patches are of a very nice size.
1 copper patch is of comparable size.

That's on default settings. So perhaps you changed game settings.

Same seed, railworld settings, I'd say looking at the whole preview map that iron is in fact better than copper, with a few gigantic patches.

Good seed, let's trade! XD
But seriously, you just need to expand your territory/patches more, you will get more iron eventually.

Without any other changes except turning water off (well enemies as well to reduce the confusion) The iron is lighter than I'd take as a map I wanted to play. Adding water, at default settings seems to flood out one of the two 'good' iron deposits (NE of spawn). Changing water settings, or some of the other things could make it even worse.

Somewhat of a low iron seed and water combine to make it less iron-rich than I'd like to play.

Using a 250% preview it don't look much better. It does get better, and bigger, as it always does, but the relation of iron to copper remains about the same.

If you want to find iron the easiest go south and west of south first
