That's too bad, because placing some level 1 quality modules into miners early in the game will leave you will dozens of chests full of rare materials to make it all with at the end.
But it's your game and you decide how to play it obviously. Most endgame ships designs i've seen use quality like there is no tomorrow, so unfortunately can't help you with that.
I personally didn't touch quality mechanics until I have achieved the 60K shattered planet achievement, so it is entirely possible to design a plain, no quality ship that can "win" the game. However it was struggling to gather any quantity of prometheum.
In the end I have given in and setup a quality sorter on fulgora, which produces quality componnets as a "byproduct". Not many, but enough for key items like asteroid collectors etc...
