Does multiplayer work if I get this game on GoG (Linux)?

It can do direct ip connection as long as your router isn't a piece of ♥♥♥♥, it's generally much better latency than going through steam servers.

I had another game on GOG but I couldn't use multiplayer features because I didn't have or can't use GOG Galaxy (as it didn't support Linux). I was wondering if something similar was in place for this game's GOG version.

Well this does have a linux client on steam, no idea about GoG tho.

You get all the features(in game server browser and in game mod manager) with the GOG version if you create an account on factorio.com and then go to account settings and find a "upgrade account" box. Get your factorio serial key from gog.com and copy paste it into that box and click upgrade account. Then use the factorio.com account in game to log in. You don't need to log into galaxy for this. It can all be done in browser. As a bonus you can use that factorio.com account to download the game from factorio.com when gog is slow to publish updates etc
