Difficult Recipes
I just got Space Age and I cant figure out how to enable difficult recipes. Did they move this setting?

I deleted all of my old saves because they were pre-space age. I hope I dont need to beat the game again to re-enable this setting...
The setting was removed. I think there is a mod that does the same thing.

I beg your pardon?
I am speechless...

I recall the same -- the devs had intended to refactor things so that expensive recipes was implemented through a mod rather than a map settings toggle.

But while the toggle was removed, for whatever reason the mod itself didn't make it into the 2.0 release. I've heard the mod has been made and is available for download, maybe even by a Wube employee, but I don't know the details.
It was mentioned in the FFFs that it was being moved to a mod. I was expecting such mod to be built into the expansion. Perhaps they opted not to include it after all or the mod was left out of the "blessed" status and made to be a standard style mod.
Don't know which or why, but the change was intentional and early.

Edit: As I recall, imperfectly, the move to a mod, rather than a toggle, was to allow more control over it by mods while removing redundant code branches.

If you are unable to enjoy the game without a couple of the items being slightly more expensive to make and refuse to use the mod that makes them that way it's kinda your own fault.

That sounds reductive and inaccurate.
Expensive recipes weren't much used by mods (or even people) and as such the extra complexity of having is as an official part of was deemed as costing more than it added to the game.
If you find the game or the expansion worthless/useless without expensive recipes then I would argue the problem isn't with the game.

Yep, it's my fault I like what I like and dislike what I don't like. I already moved on

What is/was "difficult recipes"? I tried searching for it but didn't get any hits by that name.

I only picked up the game around the time SA was released so I have little experience with vanilla. Starting to think about what mods or more challenging settings I want to play with after completing the SA content and this sounds like it could be interesting.
It made it so all the recipes would require different amounts of inputs. I used that with the research cost increase, but the difficult recipes were 100X more impactful and interesting of a challenge

Basically it was a setting called expensive recipes you could turn on that made the following changes.

Express transport belt : 10 -> 20 gear
Assembling machine 2 : 9->20 iron plate, 3 -> 5 electronic circuit, 5->10 gear
Tank : 32 -> 64 engine unit, 50 -> 100 steel plate, 15->30 gear, 10->20 advanced circuit
Advanced circuit : 2->4 plastic 4->8 copper wire
Processing unit : 5->10 sulfuric acid
Explosives : 1->2 sulfur, 1->2 coal
Battery : 20->40 sulfuric acid
low density structure : 5->10 copper plate, 5-> plastic bar
Steel : 5->10 iron plate
Steam engine : 8->10 gear, 10->50 iron plate
Gear : 2->4 iron plate
Electronic circuit 1->2 Iron 3->10 copper wire
Electric mining drill : 3->5 electronic circuit, 5->10 gear, 10->20 iron plate
Burner mining dril : 3 ->6 gear, 1->2 stone furnace, 3->6 iron plate
Pipe : 1->2 iron plate
SMG : 10->15 gear, 5->20 copper plate, 10->30 iron plate
Cannon shell : 2->4 steel plate, 2->4 plastic
Explosive cannon shell : 2->4 steel plate, 2->4 plastic

And it was removed in 2.0 because nobody used it.

Gotta love being told your a minority so your optional setting isn't worth the toggle button

Well, luckily the expansion has a lot of fresh and interesting challenges for you to enjoy on the new planets :)

Is it really that important to you that expensive recipes should be implemented via map settings toggle rather than loading a mod?
