Pollution question
If the consumed pollution is higher than the produced pollution, does that mean that pollution spread will come to a standstill until you go over that limit or start deforestation etc?

Trees that consume pollution will eventually die, at which point they will no longer absorb it. Their effect to consume pollution is limited. How long it takes for them to die depends on the amount of pollution the player produces. Of course, deforestation will immediately stop any pollution absorbing effects.

That said, there are certain mods that offer ways for the player to construct pollution absorbing buildings. Never had one of those, since I usually play peaceful mode and am not worried about pollution at all, but I know they exist.

Not really. If consumed is higher than production it means that at one or more chunks pollution is being consumed at a high rate. But pollution can still spread over those chunks and it can still spread in other directions.

The pollution will start to disappear when you consume more pollution than you produce, this mostly happen if you switch to efficiency modules since you can reduce pollution and energy requirement of machines by 80% with efficiency modules.

They also work well with solar panels to further reduce pollution and since the modules reduce energy requirement by 80% you need a lot less solar panels than without modules.

Another side effect of this is that it reduces the evolution speed since one of the 3 ways evolution increase is the total pollution you produce.

For gameplay I think this can also be a little overpowered since you can easily stop almost all biter attacks by reducing pollution, so I feel like I shouldn't use it so much but also that I should.

Yeah I've just loaded all my mining rigs with the 3 efficiency modules which has drastically lowered it.

There is still an opportunity cost and that is the pollution you produced to create the items to make the efficiency modules. This is also true of producing solar panels. Short term pollution increase for a long term pollution reduction.
