Last friday facts "yumminess"?
The very last picture on the most recent friday facts, shows crafting some organic crafting item, "Jelly-yum" or something like that, and the product has a "yummy value" of 2MJ.

What? What is yummy value? Why is yummy value?

Honestly, this just feels to me like arguing for the arguing sake. By that post, they are not bad at naming, because they did rename bulk/stack inserters when they realized it is needed. As in, after the community supported the change. You can argue this was wrong and proves they are bad at naming, but you can also argue this is correct and they would be bad at naming if they did do that right away. It's an impossible argument.

Do you have any other examples of how they are bad at naming? And no, Quality names do not count, since - again - if anything they prove they put thought and meaning behind naming.

Again, I am not trying to argue, but I find it dumbfounding to see this comment. As a board gaming veteran I do know how naming conventions can make or brake a ruleset (looking at you, Expeditions! "save" a card my shapely a**!), and never once have I thought to myself Factorio does it badly.

My first post was :
"Remember how they used to playtest a version of the game in which stack inserters did not stack items but bulk inserters did?

Seems like naming things is not their #1 strength. I don't care much, but I understand most will care more than I do.

But this is such an odd name, can't imagine it's not something temporary."

Which you chopped in half when quoting me, of course. Nothing wrong with that I guess, even if it totally changes the tone of what I said.

But tell me what is so controversial in what I said anyway? Controversial enough to keep you on arguing even if you're "not trying to argue"?

Do you think that naming things is their #1 strength? Is that it?

Do you think that giving them the benefit of the doubt by concluding that "Yummy value" has to be a temporary name is too harsh of me?

C'mon :steamfacepalm:

Calories as a name might not fit if you think about spoilage as a way to degrade to 0%
...
But after all as Chiandraba said:
It's a game.
Some quirkiness is ok and might even add to the experience.

And it's a game supporting mods, too,...

*Edit*
And, of course, calories and MJ are just different scales for energy.
Okay, calories arent the best unit to use, i can agree, but yummy is worse. Id honestly rather just have an arbitrary "nutrients" value.

I dont think that quirkiness would add to the experience here. If this isnt placeholder, this would be the only "quirky" element in the game, and im pretty sure this is a main progression item too, its not just some side thing that you can ignore, im pretty sure that the nutrients are used for making the organic research packs. I wouldnt call this game gritty but i wouldnt call it unserious. So to see everything else take itself seriously and then be hit with "yummy value". Its just out of place.

And besides, yummy is a measurement of how tasty something is, which is different than how much 'fuel' it gives you.

"Yummy" is cringe and I hate it, but after the outrage people spewed at "legendary" qualities, I expect the devs are desensitized and simply won't hear complaints.

Why the aggro, man?

I cut your post because it makes it easier to anser and clearer which part I am relating to. I do not see how that matters in the slightest. You seem to imply I did it maliciously, I cannot see how. You say it changes the tone, I do not see how. I did not imply your tone is wrong.

I never said it is controversial. I said it's dumbfounding. As in, highly unexpected. And the reasoning for it (bulk vs stack) I found incredibly lackluster and not quite strong enough to explain the strong "they are bad at X" statement (as opposed to "I dislike their approach to X").

The strawman of "oh, so you mean that X is Y, because you said Z" is just pathetic. And why it is here, I have no idea. Why do this? I never stated they are good at naming, I didn't even state they are not bad! I just said I never noticed them being bad, which is why it dumbfounded me to see this opinion. Sometimes, surprising as it is, when someone writes something, he means what he wrote, and not the exact opposite.

The last strawman I am not even going to touch. You are going places I never went, and - again - talking to you is going to be INCREDIBLY unpleasant (kind of is already) if asked a very simple question out of curiosity your response is to go ballistic and start throwing out straw-men like it's 1994. I don't even have an opinion on Yummy Value being either positive nor negative aside from noticing people who do not like it seem to make it into a huge deal. Aside from that - I DO NOT CARE about your imaginary argument.

So, let me try this again: what are some other examples that make you consider WUBE "bad at naming"? And this time, please, try not to see a question about political aligment or astrology inside this one, nor force me to defend myself for asking. It's a REALLY simple question. To quote someone: c'mon!

Perhaps it isn't meant to represent calories, but rather how "yummy" it is to the native pentapods (ie., how much it attracts wildlife)?

No, they all ready covered what will attract the creatures on Gleba. Its spores/pollen/dust type things created from harvesting the native plants.

Assuming they're attracted solely to spores, what happens when they show up at your factory? They ignore the conveyor belts literally full of food going by, and attack buildings instead?

Its explained here:
https://www.factorio.com/blog/post/fff-424
The pentapods are more passive than Nauvis' biters and the spores are an attractive factor as they are telling the pentapods "FOOD HERE!". The stopmers seem to destroy your factory by accident stomping around to get the food you are producing (and stomping with purpose on the weapons that are injuring them).

They go up and over walls like your spidertron. You'll need the new rocket turret against these beasties.
