Suggestion: allow pipes to be parallel and not connect
Just like belts can be parallel right next to each other and not connect unless you make it connect, it would be very helpful to allow pipes to be parallel (above ground) without connecting. But since they automatically connect, you are forced to combine with underground belts.

I want certain pipes parallel but above ground so it's less annoying to set up and it looks cool with parallel pipes. If they're one space apart it uses far more room and is somewhat annoying to look at.

Just click and drag for each connection you want, even if you want it connected in multiple ways. If you mess up a piece of pipe, just delete it and re-click and drag it again.

Thanks for considering it.

Nice suggestion however the game has been done for a while now. No new features like this are going to be made.

Yeah, that ship has sailed.

Also note that you wouldn't get a universal positive from players though. This system comes with consequences. It was easy for belts because they are directional and combinations of belts next to each other can be identified and dealt with. Pipes are bi-directional and this means that you need extra part types build your system (corners, t-junctions and cross-junctions). This is much less convenient that the current system with only two parts. However, if you want to try, there are mods that implement this.

IIRC, it was an intentional design decision for pipes to connect all 4 ways, and there are mods if you want to have access to 2-way pipes.

While it's possible they'll implement a new piping system with the expansion (which would likely be made available in the base game), I do think it's unlikely.

I've always seen it as a challenge to overcome in my designs. Its really only an issue with advanced oil processing where you have multiple types of fluids in close proximity Long stretches of straight pipes severely restrict fluid flow. You want to use pipe to grounds where you can for that reason and its not all that difficult to nest them.

Yeah, unfortunately the closest you are going to get in the base game are the underground pipes. But there are mods that change how pipes work.

Yall are forgetting that they're making an expansion tho so, maybe one day lmao. Otherwise just download the pipes mod that let's you do that

I doubt even the expansion will change something that would break 99% of all blueprints containing pipes.

Ther'es mods that add pipes that do exactly this. It's absurdly unlikely to be added to the base game, however.

I hate that you are forced to use underground pipes just so they can be parallel to each other. But oh well.

I ended up creating a train and for the first time I have an engine on both ends of the train. I used to always have a loop of sorts to turn trains around and a side stop that had an entrance and an exit - a train engine only at one end. Now I set up a two-way rail with just exit ramps for the stops for my two-way trains. I'm liking it much more.
