If so, these should be used sparingly, for special situations only (like sending barrels back to base after they have been emptied somewhere if using robots). As these basically force any items placed in them to be picked up by robots, even if there is no where for those items to go.
I you want items that are produced to be made available to the robots, and also for your inventory resupply/logistics, you should generally be either using passive providers (red) or storage (yellow) chests.
The easy option is Passive provider chests (red ones), you just drop items into here from assemblers etc and it make those items available for pickup by robots WHEN NEEDED, you can just block out (make red) inside the chest to limit the number of stacks to fill by. i.e. so they only produce 1 or 2 stacks of items etc.
Items will just sit in red chests until something else in the factory, including your own logistics, requests those items.
Alternately you can use Storage chests (yellow), but for this use, you also need to set the filter contents of the chest to what you are producing, and then use a wire connection (red or green), between the chest and inserter putting items in there to limit the amount to produce, and do not block the other slots in the storage chest.
With this second option, any items that need to go back into storage, (for example if deconstructing something), the robots will place them back into this storage chest.
But you should always have some yellow chests anyway, as robots will pick up random stuff anyway, such as wood, coal, stone etc. I usually just have a little 10 x 10 group of chests somewhere central.
Note, robots will also prioritise piking up from storage chests (yellow) over passive provider chests (red). So if you, or something, requests something, robots check the storage chests first, before taking from passive providers.
