Space age is meant for anyone that has learnt the basics from the base game.
Space age focuses on introducing a variety of systems with each planet, each coming with their own challenges but none of them being so overwhelming that it requires even a good understanding of the more advanced concepts like throughput or ratios.
So you can't just do the same thing on every planet, but nothing should be too complex on its own even if everything will require some time to adapt.
it is a lot more casual than space exploration of course but i´d say it doubles vanilla complexity and at least 3 times the content. especially if you go for the ultra efficiency / performance route.
i´m not done yet with space age so i´d really like to hear other peoples opinions from the late game.
i hope factorio space age gets its own space exploration mod! love that stuff.
sounds like you're really mad that it's not a space exploration clone because nothing you said in your post is accurate
I always play with default settings, without mods. Resources in space are infinite. Space science packs are literally cheaper than red science packs. Resources on Vulcanus are also infinite.
They infinite if DONT change default. I suggest going through settings and finding balance you like.
Earendel did state he wanted to make the planets more unique with version 0.7 and remove a lot of the single use recipes to cut down on tedium. I'd suggest letting the mod develop further until attempting your run, which should help enjoy the experience more than current.
That part of it to me is kinda disappointing in its simplicity, but also you should except a DLC to have a similar level of complexity to the base game, which it does. It shouldn't really be compared to a mod like SE in that respect. If you're coming from 100s or 1000s of hours in SE you're gonna find the Space Age DLC for the most part a simplified version of SE.
no need for mod. devs probably add in fututre starsystem factory building :D
You can go the oldschool route of a massive mining + smelting operation on nauvis.
Or you use space platforms as an alternative source of iron.
Or you move to Vulcanus, which is very efficient but complicates the logistics.
Even though I agree with you here - SE is still incomparably better than SA. It's not even a question. I am at BEAM3, and even though it required a lot of grinding, everything I do feels more rewarding. I still haven't used space rails, the space elevator, or spaceships. I got distracted by energy beaming.
And I don't want SA to be SE. I just don't understand how SA is so liked when you can't even walk in space and when you don't even get to have your own spaceship. What?
