can you add the dlc in later playthough?
so I want to play with a friend and he has no dlc, if we play now and he buys it later (if he likes the game) can we add it to our current playthrough or do we have to create a new map.

Yeah you can start Space Age on a non-SA save, and since you likely started a save on 2.0 it should be a smooth transition.

tech trees(and some recipes) are different, so it's not really recommended

you can add it later, but you'll have different, not optimal experience, compared to starting space age from the beginning. f.e. alot of regular things from base game would need access to other planets in space age.

Yes, but the progression is supposed to be different, but they have a little patching script that fixes the research order to some degree, but it's not recommended, because some things you're supposed to have earlier while other things you're supposed to have later, but it's totally possible if you want to convert one of your old games to doing space age stuff, I would just consider playing it normally once first. For example, if you patch your game you'll lose your Spidertrons, because you're not supposed to have them yet.

In Vanilla, the rocket requres all Nauvis science packs and it has rather high crafting costs, with Space Age the rocket only requires 3 science packs and is much cheaper to make. It will also push many later researches like high tier modules or artillery to post rockets, meaning you woul dusually need to travel to other planets in order to unlock them. So if you first launch a rocket in vanilla Factorio and then switch over to Space Age, no tonly will you have earlier access to many researches you are not supposed to have, some of them also have changed recipes so you can't even craft them anymore, like tier 3 modules.

So it is in general not advised to switch over to Space Age on an already completed save file. Though if you only got up to blue science it's probably fine.

I dont think we will build so much, just a couple of hours.

So, out of curiosity, I removed the "mods" and loaded up base Factorio.

If you remove Space Age, even if you keep Elevated Rails and Quality enabled, the recipes return to the original Factorio recipes, and the Rocket Silo will again require yellow and purple science. Old recipes and ratios return as well.

Factorio without Space Age is a great game, but if you intend to play Space Age, I would advise you make a different save for Space Age, as the early game balance is very different, and you will likely have significantly more pollution impacting biters on Nauvis if you use a non-Space Age map compared to if you started a Space Age map. That's aside from needing to fix your base to account for changes in recipes in ratios. I think you'll be fine for red and green science, but I would be hesitant to do anything large scale with oil, and I would definitely not touch yellow and purple science. (There is also an achievement for not using yellow or purple science until you've used one of the new Space Age sciences. Something to keep in mind if you decide to play vanilla Factorio, but also plan to move into Space Age.
