Would you recommend getting the DLC for a first playthrough of Factorio ?
Hi !
I'm planning on getting the game pretty soon. Would you recommend getting the DLC as well for a first time on Factorio ?

Yes, definitely. It might be a bit overwhelming at first but you can ask for help here, people will answer your questions! :D

No, it's not necessary.

What you do instead is you buy just the base version and try out the game, start a classic freeplay scenario and try to launch the rocket. When you get that far, you will have a good idea whether you like the game enough for something more, then you buy the expansion(if you want it).

I have just started around the 20 hour mark, and am about to buy it. I like the feeling of having a new game that has an absolute ton of content to look forward to, so far I have enjoyed the game enough to know I will play it for a while, and extra stuff to keep my interest is definitely a good thing

yes, get the dlc as well it is amazing

You never need DLCs in a game you are buying for the first time.
First, play with only the base game, and only when you are confident that not only you want to continue to play for quite a while but also that you want what a DLC in particular has to offer should you consider getting it.

The base game is more than capable of standing on its own anyway, many people have reached at the very least several hundreds hours, even thousands.

+1 To what Fel said.

Thanks everyone for your inputs!

To make sure I fully understand : the DLC content happens only after the rocket launch ?

Going into space, yes.

But "quality" and "elevated rails" can happen way before that.

Thank you. I feel like I'll go for a first run without DLC, and see what happens from here.
I'm pretty sure I'll fall in love with the game in no time and get the DLC shortly after that though :D

Have a great weekend and some quality time on Factorio everyone !

There's no reason why you couldn't go into space on a first play-through. The only reason I would say to not get it is because money. Perhaps Factorio is not the game for you, so buying it later when you want more does make a lot of sense.

I would recommend you to get the base game first then play it until bored/burnout level.
then
Try alternative game like Dyson sphere program before going for Space Age.

Or Do DSP first then Factorio (base game) later is fine too.

With this, you will have an ability to weight/judge whether it is worth it to go straight for a DLC or just go for an alternative path in the long run. This will create you a sense of time value whether it is worth the time to wait for each single patch when you reading a(n) (update?) patch note.
In a sense of competitive comparison between delivered dev, of course. If you play just one game, you won't have anything else to compare. whether it is super lack of new content, or super snail update speed in term of content delivered.

Just don't get confuse with bugsfix, "minor" optimize = new content update. Because of a simple logic "You broke it, you fix it".
