Do they damage your stuff? If yes, can you turn them off? I'm on the fence considering the DLC.

Yes, don't know. If you're on the fence I would probably suggest you don't buy the expansion.

Asteroids come in different sizes, the smaler ones dont damage your platform.

but the bigger does. it is part of the game to build defences in space such like turrets, and more to compensate the losses and shoot your way.

as far as i know you cant take them off. they are important and a valuable ressource in space.

Big ones do.
You can shoot them with turrets to break apart into smaller harmless ones
They are also a source of resources so no turning them off
Nauvis orbit has only harmless ones

Currently playing with enemies turned off, and no, you can't turn them off. They still wreck the crap out of your space platform if you're not set up / prepared.

We flew our platform to the next planet and it took way more ammo then we thought with 5 turrets. We found out the hard way that the asteroids dont stop when you go over to the next planet. So you need a really decent ammo factory or stockpile on the platform. They have 90% laser resistance.

Think the resources from asteroids are needed to make fuel for the platform engines.

Smallest ones have only 20% laser res so you can supplement. and one double speed 1 assembler 2 with circular belt was enough for me (i microed the transit).

Yellow ammo is very easy from them too
