Any reason to use fluid train cars in 2.0?
Other than nostalgia/aesthetics it seems like pipes are better in every way:

  • instant transport
  • unlimited throughput
  • cheaper
  • simpler

With the new liquid "visualizations" it seems like pipes even visualize as the "liquid power lines" with pumps being the "liquid power poles."

Depending on distance, you're gonna need a whole lot of pumps.
They use them for separating sections. One of the recent FF explain it in details.

Over very long distances, ups wise fluid trains may be better but dunno. Since trains are buffed due to elevated rails + easy refueling , maybe instead of fluid transporting, you can just transport the rest to fluid location, assemble product and move product to back with trains. So probably i will not be using fluid trains either.

"In the new system, there is no longer a need to use pumps for this purpose. Pumps are still useful to force directional flow, act as conditional valves with a circuit network, and to load/unload trains, but you won't be placing nearly as many of them as before. "

Since pipes now function as a single segment they probably have a lower impact on performance, but we'll have to wait for people to actually test it.

Pipelines are now a valid option, but if you already have a train system anyway it is easier and cheaper to just add train stops and trains for it.

Basically, before it was pretty much only trains that made sense, now you have the choice.

Perhaps the cost of pipes are due for a rebalance.

Maybe, but if they were planning on rebalancing, they probably would had done it at the same time.

They made some 11th hour changes.

Pipelines are constrained to a 250x250 tile area, and exceeding this limit will cause all flow through the pipeline to cease. You can split a pipeline using a pump. The game displays a visualization to show that the pipe is broken and will generate an alert at the location(s) where you need to place pumps. This makes the problem easy to diagnose and easy to fix.

Actually rails are more expensive even with pumps every ~250 tiles. Definitely not "easier" either, since you have to set up a lot of things (including pipes/pumps) to use rail.

You definitely have a choice now, but the easier/cheaper choice is pipes. But if you like rails for fluids, you can still do that for nostalgia/aesthetic reasons.

Trains in general are pretty niche now. Belts have a lot more capacity and most stuff are basiaclly free on several of the plantes. So why train stuff in from halfway acrose the map

Even if pipes/pumps were more expensive, "setup costs" is probably the "most minor" reason to use pipes instead of rails, "setup costs" are negligible in the long run. "Instant", "Unlimited" and "Simplicity" are the biggest reasons.

No?

I would rather use a train than run over underground’s with my tank constantly.

True.

The alternative is more trains/rails just means "you" are more likely to be run over.
