They unified the search interface across all bits of UI in the game.
The magnifying glass was already present basically everywhere else.
It makes sense, but when you are used to the old mods menu it definitely takes a bit to notice that magnifying glass in the corner.
Or if you start typing in the main search area, you automatically switch to the top right corner 'focus search' box. This is basically what browsers started doing when you type in the search box in the middle of their built-in start pages. It instantly transplants you into the address bar to perform an integrated search with the default search-engine handler. (Google, Bing, or DuckDuckGo for most, I assume.)
