It's a One Two Punch in the Top Sellers
Just figured would mention this bit, since there has been some talk about it topping the best sellers. But it's actually Factorio at #1, with Space Age at #2.

And considering many people will be buying Factorio with Space Age (since some people like to get everything together, and it's the same price as a new AAA game), as well as all of the existing Factorio players who will only be buying Space Age, the fact that the original is still outselling Space Age, with both being the top selling games, is pretty incredible.

Adding to the fact that this doesn't show GOG or Wube's own sales (although there will be some double dipping, since at least Wube's sales all get Steam keys, and i assume the Steam stats measure Steam activations), it's got to be a pretty impressive ROI for day one.

Also the second highest concurrent player count for a non F2P game.

None of this is a massive surprise. Since most of us know how good the game is, how diligent the devs are, and have been following the Expansion for years now. Plus i expect the week of coverage from content creators probably did what they hoped in terms of showcasing the game to new people, and reminding existing players about the Expansion, or showcasing it to those on the fence etc.

All in all, seems like a good day.

Also....... THEY ADDED AN AUTOMATED TREE AVOIDANCE ALGORITHM.
Just in case people haven't noticed due to a pathologic avoidance of large clusters of trees.
I don't know if they announced that one in the FFFs (since i was avoiding spoilers for both 2.0 and Space Age), but that single feature makes me want to hug a random developer :-)
Coz it's a real avoidance algorithm, rather than just massively reducing or eliminating the collision, which is what mods did. But this is the real deal.

Anyway. Awesome job Wube. It was expected, but it's still nice to see all of the years of hard work pay off.

Now please excuse me while i go and fix up timers to shut off the power to my dwelling to prevent me from playing till i pass out and lose my job, miss my bills, and am discovered, two weeks from now, by a concerned neighbour who got worried when they stopped hearing insane screams of "THE FACTORY MUST GROW", and instead finds me, curled into a ball at the foot of the now silent electricity meter, tearfully rubbing an oil lamp and making one last declaration to the genie inside......

"the...."
"factory......"
"must...................."
"grow........"

UPDATE
======
Factorio and Space Age now #3 and #4 Global Top Sellers by revenue (still #1 and #2 in multiple territories)

CS2 is #1, and pre purchases of CoD 6 is #2

Next two global top sellers by revenue are both F2P games like CS2.

So Factorio and Space Age are the only 2 games in the top 6 global top sellers that are actually released games that only make their money once by selling a copy (instead of continuous in game transactions or cosmetic DLC revenue like the F2Ps).

Also the player count continues to rise close to 100K every day.

Hoping to hit some big scores at the weekend :-)

In my region Factorio : SA is hang and swing around at 21+ rank
Top seller is Dragon Ball Sparkling#1 (Stuck at #1 many days now), Monhun Wild(Pre-order) COD 6. Yeah, better wait and see during weekend when people have free game time.
But I doubt it would climb to top 10 until people have more access on "negative" in-depth game review or vtuber do more game stream in my region.

interesting - yes i am seeing some regions where the games are a quite a bit lower - and some where Space Age is quite a bit lower than the base game - and i think each Space Age sale may be counting as a Factorio sale - since that's the only way F2P games can even get in the chart, by having their content contribute to their overall game revenue - but no individual piece of content is likely to get into the charts

but still #3 and #4 globally - and #2 and #3 in quite a few regions - and the base game has been in the charts for 3 weeks in Czech Republic - home state advantage :-)

but yeah - interesting to see how things change in the different regions and throughout the week - and if the global total stays strong

and obviously prices are different across regions - so people may want to view more content to be sure it's worth it for them

still definitely showing a positive global happiness rating when it comes to Factorio :-)

and player count keeps on rising - already back up to #8 and about to break 90K again :-)

Don't forget that most user have no free time to waste on space age unless it is something that "die hard fan level" prepare to drop everything including work just to play one game.

In my region, most player doesn't care "day one" in these type of game genre much. Most will have their handcuff/tie on burning daily-weekly-monthly task/ limited event on most well known live service game.

Let alone going to offline Big event/game collab/vtuber collab/Cosplay Fes a couple time per month for limited item which is now being a norm these day.

yeah - everyone likes different things - and there are definitely some regions were specific kinds of games are massive compared to everything else

i am a single player game player myself - and not the live service versions of those either lol (so no Fallout 76 - and even Elite Dangerous annoyed me that you need to be online just to update the economy, since that is really not necessary to enjoy it)

but yeah - different strokes for different folks in this big wide world :-)

couldn't find your region by the way - i had a look through them all - and i couldn't find anywhere with Dragonball up top - but i did see the different trends between continents and in different parts of continents etc

was interesting :-)

and the live event stuff sounds fun :-)

Don't know if you noticed, but the spidertron already had that. Good that the player also got it.

Damn, with your giving an example of FO76, it is sound to me like you're a World of Warcraft player never touch/try or heard of Final Fantasy live service.

After migration(due to Blizzard being a jerk) to FFXIV Oniline -> receive "Culture shock" due to better living standard and better deliver content.

I feels something like that.

lol - no - i played WoW for a few weeks, 20 years ago, and hated it - is when i realised i cannot play with other real people - i like to be immersed in the world, and real people ruin that lol

and i have heard of the FF Online games - and i know they are popular - but again - i can't enjoy playing with real people - i prefer (some) real people in real life lol - in a video game give me some AI :-)

also, for me Final Fantasy peaked at FFVII ;-)
(yes, old man who had the first Playstation)

if i would play online multiplayer RPGs i would try Neverwinter (and maybe ESO)

and probably FF Online

but alas - single player is my jam :-)

Yeah I understand you, You've never tasted any good live services game before. That explains a lot why you bring up such terrible choice like FO76. I'm a hardcore soloist myself and rarely form MMO party with my friend unless it is a force party content. Now I'm during a burnout period and seek to chill out on some doujin eroge and typical time waste title offline game.

These days once you get poison by some of them, be ready to say goodbye a large chuck portion among of your free time and farewell to a certain type of time waste/warp offline game.

In the end any choice is good. single player/offline game is great which give you freedom of time, play whenever you like. While good live service game provide you that you don't need to periodically seek buying a new game but enslave your freedom of time and can easily burnout you, if you pick up and play too many named game it is. Cheers mate, gonna watch anime marathon non stop + some snack. :RedSuperCat:

lol - FO76 was an example because in my head i seemed to recall people say it can be solo'd - as opposed to WoW which really put me off because it pretty much required you to team up with people - and then Elite Dangerous because you can play sole with no interaction with real people - but you still have to be online

also FO76 came up because it's the MMORPG edition of FO4, and i do like FO4 (despite its issues lol)

but yes - i can understand that for people who are connoisseurs of MMORPGs and other live service games, they were terrible examples lol (especially FO76 which i understand is terrible even if it has improved from its initial state)

anyway - good chat - take it easy mate - enjoy the anime and everything else - and i am sure we will both be interested to see how the charts and player counts do for Factorio over the weekend :-)

For me my image of MMORPG hardcore solo is be like, one person doing a solo run raid boss. I used to play mabinogi:heros(JP) and on Vindictus(NA) until server ping is "your journey is end".

(Not me)

Thanks! you enjoy your time too :RedSuperCat::MiniCatLove::spiffo:

i got halfway through the video before my ears were ringing and my eyes were strobing lol :-)

they were kicking some serious ass though :-)

i guess over the years MMORPGs have taken inspiration from everything - so the combat there is a spectacle fighter like Bayonetta - looks pretty badass :-)

and yeah - if i was to play one i would want one that can be solo'd - but even then - other players would annoy me lol :-)
if i'm gonna be kicking some ass like that i'm gonna be playing something like Horizon Zero Dawn - just me and the NPCs and the robot dinosaurs :-)

anyway - thanks for sharing - take care :-)

i am looking forward to playing Satisfactory one day - maybe the next time it is on sale - since they tend to do reasonably large discounts - and i would probably be willing to pay a max of $20 for a game with no demo that many Factorio players have told me is fun, but has a lot of annoyances and limitations etc

but Satisfactory is doing very well - and i am sure was high in the top sellers for a while when it hit 1.0 recently - and still has a high player count - that it may sustain if and when Factorio's player count lowers after the initial hype

but obviously Factorio's count may stay relatively high for a while since we all have this new content to play - and i am sure that there are some new addictions currently taking hold - as well as existing ones going into full relapse (mine included lol - although it never truly went away)

anyway - is a good week for Wube and Factorio and the players - happy days :-)

It's interesting that the base game seems to be above the expansion is a bit strange to me, though. Unless each copy of the expansion sold also sort of counts for the base game?

That's almost always how expansions work. This is why if your game is good enough you make an expansion and not a new game. The purpose of an expansion is to help boost the sales the base game while also making money off of the DLC. If for some reason that's not how it works (mostly old players buy it), then it's a better idea to package the expansion into a new game, because that'll attract more newer players.
