EDIT: Assembling Machine 1 can now take 3 ingredients, totally still possible.
and Lazy B is the way - i think you only need 101 crafts total - so you have a few spare to speed things up with some more furnaces at the start (and not needing to use your only furnace for the boiler)
One note, however, the absolute minimum was 103 crafts, in 1.1.110, which included using your one and only stone furnace to make the boiler and 104 was much more common, for minimalists, as the stone furnace is only 1 craft anyway. Whether or not you use the extra 8 crafts for another furnace or even a spare drill don't really matter. Once you have that first shiny new assembling machine you need to hand-craft nothing ever again in that game.
are you sure you're not thinking of the olden days when you needed to hand craft an oil refinery?
or maybe some recipe is slightly lighter?
they must have changed a recipe - i shall investigate - but is likely gonna be a single gear for the assembler or the steam engine i expect - can only be for something we just make one or two of, since is just two crafts
even this is a nice little puzzle lol
Check the offshore pump:
1.1.110: (7 craft)
1 gear
2 circuit
3 wire craft
1 pipe
2.0: (5 craft)
2 gear
3 pipe
