Will a megabase as a goal still relevant? (potential spoilers)
Hey!

I liked that with vanilla, after the rocket, it was common to build a megabase to reach 1000 or something like that. But with Space Age, is it so much decentralised that it's not really structured to do so? I'd be sad if we'd lose that kind of goal. Obviously, I'm aware it's a sandbox and we can play it the way we want, but I did enjoy that "unofficial" goal.

feel free to spoil if it allow to answer the question (unless it's a rule?? if so nevermind)

I don't "know" the answer, yet unless something new is presented to replace that project, I expect that it will still be the main post-victory activity. The 'decentralized' is only more noticeable because it's forced by the planets and what science can be made where. Unless someone custom-built a map just to megabase, which is probably about half of then really, the megabases were still decentralized and trains were the "connection" between production and research. Rockets are the new trains, but the "game" is the same in spirit.

My speculation with no videos to support that.

Since the mantra has always been "the factory must grow" even for the devs and Space age is even more focused on that goal, my guess would be yes.

Yes.

I will be targeting 500K SPM if my PC can hold up.

The thing that changed now: there are much more relevant infinite technologies and they have different science pack requirements, what one means by SPM will depend from person to person.

But there is one big end-game infinite research that includes all the packs, so if you want to flex you design chops, you can. That one gives a huge bonus, but it is one of those bonuses that helps your unnecessarily high SPM factory research even faster, so it it for the megabase people.

On the other hand, mining prod research is super cheap now and there are other mechanics that will be as strong or much stronger to reduce your raw resource drain.

I noticed a talk about 1 million science per minute based on some fff. I think that will be a decent milestone. (I just want to beat the game, then maybe try death world)

For me quality changes the game too much and megabases won't be interesting with SA. I'll do the bonus goal of getting to the edge of the map, I think. But I can still do new megabases in vanilla 2.0, with no quality and no rollercoaster rails, where 10k SPM will still be a solid challenge.

Anyone know whether the new stack inserters and belts were added to vanilla? I'm assuming they're DLC runs only, as I think they need the new science packs, which is a shame for base game megabase UPS. I guess we'll all find out in a few hours.

I doubt that it will change.
Atleast I'm aiming for one (not decided on a number yet). It should feel fresh with all the new stuff.

Sadly, both are Space Age only. I did literally beg devs to have them available, like the rollercoaster, in the 'base game' vanilla of the DLC, but it didn't work. No stack inserters without space platforms and planets.

Thanks to belt stacking and quality helping to scale vertically, the concept of megabases is very appealing now more than ever. Fewer entities to melt your PC allows even lower end systems to give them an attempt too.

There are mods for that. Obviously I didn't test them, since 2.0 is not out now, but all you need is a mod that enables the rails for example. There are a few already, but I'll need to play to tell you which is the right one.

You still need to own the DLC.

Same for quality and a few other features.
