60 FPS + 60 Interpolated frames is just too good.
For anyone wanting to get rid of the choppy feeling of 60 HZ just use Lossless scaling app. Since 2.3 update i just don't see any artefact, not even the UI.

GPU usage go from 25W to 45/50 at 4K so its irrelevant.
Space Drug is going to be glorious at 120.

Sadly, all I get with that app is screen tearing and as much, if not more, motion blurring as before.

Interpolation is in general a garbage way to "increase" framerate. In the best case scenario it might seem slightly smoother but you usually end up with terrible smearing tearing or other issues like input lag. Its not like 60 FPS is bad anyway especially in a game like factorio where you arent generally doing anything with any amount of action.

Much of the 120 or bust gang are just kind of delusional elitists. There is a point where higher frames is better but for anything outside of the pro CSGO scene anything above 60 is fine.

OP is this what you are talking about?

It's funny, because from my pov most people like you are professional copium addicts. I can't prove it, but I seriously doubt it I am so extraordinary genetically gifted to be the sole person to easily see the difference in smoothness between 60/120 and even 240.

I find it much more believable that people like you need to grasp straws to convince themselves high refresh rate makes no difference, and not that you simply can't afford one.
Halko Oct 22, 2024 @ 1:09am
Oh for sure there IS a difference between 60 and 120 and 240 its just everything past 60 gets hit with more and more diminishing returns and in a game like factorio where you are not twitch gaming where super fast reactions and displays are important its just kind of a moot point. Especially when all of the software is going to generally screw up more than it fixes. There is a place for high refresh rates and it is not factorio or some sketchy frame generation software.

I have a 120 hz monitor i actively bought BECAUSE it was 120 and i run it at that when it is appropriate but im not gonna install a bunch of garbage that will likely just make it look worse than running it at native 60hz. High refresh rates are not worth it unless they are NATIVELY outputting that rate. It does not matter how "good" your upscaler is it will always be inferior to actually running natively and the potential drawbacks are much worse than any potential benefits. Its basically like installing a full aftermarket body kit on a ford focus. Utterly pointless.

Okay i agree. I thought you made your original argument about high refresh displays in general.

Dude this is brilliant. Bought LS like 2 years ago. Never used it. Now testing with Factorio: LSFG 2.3, Mode: x2 + Gsync support. But the mouse cursor is too small :P (1440p)
Flocc Oct 22, 2024 @ 2:39am
I already have a bigger cursor by a notch in Windows.
It seems that Gsync is working for me, no tearing, and my monitor sets ~120 hz to match current game fps.

5fps with a refresh rate of 240Hz is great! :)

Although this is not the exact scenario (however a good example); If you were using a VR headset and watching something in motion, It's much better to have it rendering at 120fps+ than 60 fps+ (the shared point of topic being immersion factor, although VR is a more direct-to-eye example)

It's simply visual motion clarity you are getting. It's not critical, but it is much visually better in some to most cases (preference accounted for). This is the reason High Refresh Rate monitors are popular.

VR 3D or 2D it doesnt really matter at the end of the day though considering the problems with the tech is that it degrades visual fidelity in exchange for higher "FPS". "Visual motion clarity" doesnt mean or do anything if the actual image its showing has dropped in quality drastically by running it through a filter to simulate higher frame count. If you absolutely want to have something run at a higher frame count the only real option that isnt some kind of cope is to upgrade hardware or hope that the game somehow gets an update to unlock a frame cap. Everything else is simply a downgrade and introduces possible issues that should never exist.

It works like a charm, thanks 🫡
