Luckily I have strong enough willpower to just ignore and scroll on by. Would of preferred the embargo being lifted maybe 2-3 days before hand instead of a week but eh, won't be watching youtube when it drops that's for sure.
I use Unhooked on top of that to hide all YouTube recommendations. I know very well that I don't have self-control, and YouTube is designed to beat your self-control into the ground until you submit with to recommendations, so I always hide recommendations on my primary account anyways.
I still use YouTube recommendations, but I do it from a secondary browser, so I can clear the history and cache whenever I want, so I can control the algorithm a little, and not get stuck in some weird echo chamber of content that only has to do with what I've been recently watching.
I don't blame content creators for any of that. Their viewers want content and making content is their job so it all works out for them. The YouTube algorithm though...
but here is the thing ... they CAN NOT get NEW-PLAYER feedback from people who have 1k to 10k hours in factorio ... ever.
if you watch any new player stream to factorio (0 hours, blind play) you will see how complicated to understand factorio for a lot of new players. (who remember markiplier with his factory "circles/loops" ?)
I can't tell you how to feel about something, but I am positive by next week this feeling will be history.
not to get into details, but IF i am a new player there is a chance I get both Factorio + Space Age together... the smartest way to design space age is to make it welcoming for both new players, and those who want more complex/smart solutions. there is new people who get into PC gaming every day.
i remember watching grubby try out the game and was so hyped. he quit on the 2nd tutorial mission but honestly it was totally on him for not reading the information provided by the game. he also got very distracted by his chat - was pretty disappointed because i think once it would have clicked for him he would have done some funny newbie stuff
I read in factorio forms that they are willing to do educational prices for those who reach out to them... so I decided to try a small sample in my school before reaching out to them with the few copies I have. after 4 hours of game time not a single thing got automated, and no steam electric power got online.
guiding students were hopeless, a lot of them were fighting the controls, and madness started when they found out "c" turn the game into poor man counter strike .
one of the best things that came later that allowed my nephews to enjoy factorio was the controls hints that came with the switch/steam deck/controller update.
in summery its good thing to include/have new players in mind. always.
lol no. There are many relevant ones.
It's quite evident that they weren't aiming at the new player with Space Age. The whole design of it is more enhancing the game for people who want more past vanilla.
shout out to both DoshDoshington and Michael Hendriks, they both play factorio in ways I will never put my self through for the sake of audience entertainment, If there is more factorio content creators with similar contents I would love to know about them 👍
I enjoy their content, thank you 🌹
