Should have left the embargo in place til launch
title says most of it. tastes horrid having to suffer through my weak will. i was waiting patiently, then the videos came flooding in. i held off for two days. then i watched "just one video". then one more... and now im left wondering why some 500 sub nobody is playing before everyone else? i wasnt going to worry about it but my weak will took me to edit my review. i was going to leave it at that but now my weak will has brought me here to rant.

so come on fanboys, pile on. i am still the biggest fanboy around but im a bit miffed.

I understand why they released it early, it's just great advertisement and since youtubers play so much they will find bugs, both great. But I don't like how many new '10 things you must know' and 'what's the best planet' etc.

Luckily I have strong enough willpower to just ignore and scroll on by. Would of preferred the embargo being lifted maybe 2-3 days before hand instead of a week but eh, won't be watching youtube when it drops that's for sure.

This is why I've unsubscribed from all Factorio channels, except a couple small streamers that don't know much about the game.

I use Unhooked on top of that to hide all YouTube recommendations. I know very well that I don't have self-control, and YouTube is designed to beat your self-control into the ground until you submit with to recommendations, so I always hide recommendations on my primary account anyways.

I still use YouTube recommendations, but I do it from a secondary browser, so I can clear the history and cache whenever I want, so I can control the algorithm a little, and not get stuck in some weird echo chamber of content that only has to do with what I've been recently watching.

I don't blame content creators for any of that. Their viewers want content and making content is their job so it all works out for them. The YouTube algorithm though...

Yeah. I also don't like it honestly. I can understand an early testing week with selected factorio experts and enthousiasts to get some extra feedback before launch. But the early access thing without NDA in general doesn't feel nice for every 'normal' player being as hyped as everyone. Just treat everyone the same and have one launch.

the first video I saw was from some one i never heard of before, claims he had 5 hours in vanilla factorial ... and 80 in space age. and it sure show with their factory placement and some decision (like thinking flame throwers are the best way to deal with trees, while they have grenades on hand), it does give the ??? moment ...

but here is the thing ... they CAN NOT get NEW-PLAYER feedback from people who have 1k to 10k hours in factorio ... ever.

if you watch any new player stream to factorio (0 hours, blind play) you will see how complicated to understand factorio for a lot of new players. (who remember markiplier with his factory "circles/loops" ?)

I can't tell you how to feel about something, but I am positive by next week this feeling will be history.

You won't get NEW player feedback in space age, as you need experience in the basic Factorio first. Unless I am missing something.

I'm not exactly defending the early lifting of the NDA embargo, though I do think it's a good tactic. I am merely observing that WUBE seems to have picked at least one streamer correctly. Of all the tempting suggestions from YT the ones you finally broke down and watched included that 500 sub nobody. Sure, they are still a nobody, and only have 200 subs. and you watched it anyway. Did its job just fine. Certainly a better choice than giving me access, with 0 subs and less than 500 total views.

not to get into details, but IF i am a new player there is a chance I get both Factorio + Space Age together... the smartest way to design space age is to make it welcoming for both new players, and those who want more complex/smart solutions. there is new people who get into PC gaming every day.

i remember watching grubby try out the game and was so hyped. he quit on the 2nd tutorial mission but honestly it was totally on him for not reading the information provided by the game. he also got very distracted by his chat - was pretty disappointed because i think once it would have clicked for him he would have done some funny newbie stuff

I just came with a thought, which is worse ... to be a self proclaimed dedicated factorio player who is impatient for early-access (and wish the NDA continued 1 more week) ... or being a content creator who have to split their time between making "potential" money or playing factorio with their limited time ... and NOT talk about it or create contents about it for a "reward" of getting the DLC for free and sharing their footage one week before release knowing that every other content creator will be doing the same thing.

I read in factorio forms that they are willing to do educational prices for those who reach out to them... so I decided to try a small sample in my school before reaching out to them with the few copies I have. after 4 hours of game time not a single thing got automated, and no steam electric power got online.

guiding students were hopeless, a lot of them were fighting the controls, and madness started when they found out "c" turn the game into poor man counter strike .

one of the best things that came later that allowed my nephews to enjoy factorio was the controls hints that came with the switch/steam deck/controller update.

in summery its good thing to include/have new players in mind. always.

lol no. There are many relevant ones.

It's quite evident that they weren't aiming at the new player with Space Age. The whole design of it is more enhancing the game for people who want more past vanilla.

shout out to both DoshDoshington and Michael Hendriks, they both play factorio in ways I will never put my self through for the sake of audience entertainment, If there is more factorio content creators with similar contents I would love to know about them 👍
