2.0 changes

I've only been semi-following the 2.0 changes and Space Age. One thing I'm unsure of is when it comes to old tech being routed through new ways either in base 2.0 or Space Age. Spidertrons for example. I read that they're unlocked by travelling to one of the new planets. But say you don't have the Space Age DLC, is that kind of tech not available then, thereby unavailable in base game? I very much doubt Wube would do that, so I assume I'm adding 2 + 2 and coming out with 14.

As I said, I haven't been following much as I've been on a Factorio de-binge for the last year or so - too much of a good thing and all that. So I am completely ignorant to most of the changes. And I'm too old/tired to be going digging.

I'm on the fence about buying the new DLC as I've never been too much into space stuff, never used mods like it that so heavily modded the game either. That said it does look interesting, but I'll probably wait some time after release to get used to the 2.0 changes first.

Space Age is going to be a mod (well actually several mods, SA, elevated rails and quality) which you can switch on/off like any other mod. If you turn them all off(or don't buy the expansion), my understanding is that you will have the same recipes and techs as in vanilla 1.1, with added QoL improvements of 2.0.

Pretty much. Nothing gets removed from base game, the extra changes are for SA.

You won't be able to use your current rail blueprints either, but the rails you have placed will still function. I believe they mentioned that, in the future, old rails in pre-2.0 saves will actually flat out not work

Afaik, there will be an update 2.0 for the base game, too, which contains the basic changes, which are shared with the DLC. The vanilla game itself, regarding resources, base building and techs probably won't be much different to 1.1, but I would expect some changes regarding QoL, etc.

Not to mention that some other studios would look at the separate parts of the new update(quality, elevated rails), and would release them separately at 10$ each.

they should release a DLC demo, can't go off of botted reviews and maybe 1-2 trailer videos alone.
Youtubers "showcasing the DLC" (often paid by WUBE themselves) also doesn't help to see if you'd like it or not.

If your on the fence about the DLC just wait a few days after the release so you can just check the steam reviews. Nobody's forcing you to buy it as soon as it comes out.
A demo would be nice, but what would it even include? Earlygame Nauvis will be basically unchanged from the existing demo so it can't be that.
