What happens if Biter Eggs/Pentapod Eggs spoil on a planet besides Nauvis/Gleba?
I'm genuinely curious about if the devs thought about this. Do the Biters/Wrigglers just instantly die if they're on the wrong world? Or will they happily exist on the wrong planet and potentially set up colonies there if you get enough of them amassed?

they will happily exist on the "wrong planet"

don't know about setting up bases tough, probbaly not.

I do wonder, as their AI is coded to gather together enough to form a new nest every so often based on evolution factor. Theoretically at least you could turn any of the planets into massive Biter/Pentapod hives if that AI still works the way it's supposed to. Potentially you could even give them quality levels. Who wouldn't want to see Vulcanus overrun with Legendary Biters?

Only expansion parties which are made from already existing spawners can make new nests, as far as I know.

Well, i'm finding out if wrigglers like space right now.

I do wonder. This calls for some !SCIENCE! (which any Dwarf Fortress player will recognize immediately and run away screaming at the sight of).

Hmm, I doubt they would spoil into pure waste on other planets.

It just happened to me, I had biter eggs on a space platform and some spoiled, I did not directly witness it, but I saw the alarm and the aftermath. A pile of dead biters, some damaged turrets that I placed there, not willing to take the risk.

So I suppose, if biters can live in the void of space, they surely can throw a punch or two on other planets too.

No idea about spiders. They could work differently.

Well, the wrigglers
just shuffle around and slowly die in space, same as on nauvis. But i also didnt aggro them with turrets, i assume they'd fight then.

But what if they spawn in space. o.O

!SCIENCE! complete! They don't make nests, sadly. But they do chill with the Demolishers, so that's cool.

Biters and wrigglers that hatch from the eggs are special enemies with negative regen, so they just die slowly, even on their home planet. Which kinda sucks, I wanted to selectively breed megabiters for my biter zoo.

Seems like they regenerate faster than they lose health past a certain evolution level, at least for Biters.

Attack party members that are damaged and run away can form spawners and worms if they are far enough from a player structure when they calm down. That's why flame throwers are good. All biters and spitters that are ignited always take enough damage to kill them even if they run away.

Hmmm, I didn't know that. Interesting if true.

Its why after you have cleared a section and go back through there can be a worm or a spawner. Escapees from the nest clusters and orphaned attack party members that got away will form new spawners or worms. That doesn't happen if you make sure to chase down all the escapees.

I had a bunch of biter eggs on Gleba that weren't going to be used in time so I put them in a chest on the edge of radar range. A few minutes later there were a heap of biters just sitting around. Eventually they died of, I assume, old age. Nobody on the server killed them. We also had a ship explode due to large biters spawning out of eggs in the core that nobody knew were there. They seem to not attack buildings but cause damage on hatching and if enough hatch at once the ship gets destroyed. We had some hatch on our Prometheum science vessel as well but it was only a couple, when we noticed, there were just two biters chilling on the platform not attacking anything. Threw up a couple of laser turrets to kill them fast.
