As a result, many mods tend to not get updated when a game updates.
Thankfully, in the case of Factorio mods are zip files containing images and raw text files you can edit with a simple notepad, so anyone could pickup an existing mod and update it for the current version (preferably with credits to the original authors or course).
For a lot of the smaller/simpler mods, updating them would be fairly simple (some would just need an edit of the info.json for example) so you could give it a go with some very basic knowledge.
Alternatively, you could go back to 1.1.110 through the beta system (or by downloading that version of the game from the devs directly outside of steam) and get the mods in that version.
