I'm giving up on Space Age
It's been like three weeks and I can't finish one play through. No matter what I try I can't build a ship good enough to reach Aquilo and return. TBH, I haven't been having any fun for the past week or so, I just wanted to finish but I'm over it.

For Aquilo, I believe rockets are essential, and you have to set priorities to turrets so they do not shoot what they should not be wasting ammo for.
I have not reached Aquilo either, but I know what to expect and how I'm going to pass through big asteroids. It's just, Aquilo demands a lot of preparations first, which take a lot of time to do (at least for me, since I'm not flying there without a proper epic dreadnaut XD).
So you are giving up almost at the very end, but eh, if you can't you can't I guess. )

I'm probably a bit spoiled, seeing as I have all legendary equipment and legendary modules with legendary beacons on my "dreadnaught". A single assembler is enough to feed like 40 rocket turrets going ham.

That obviously won't be the case on your first trip to Aquilo :)

He was managing volcanus all by himself while I did fulgora then he went to gleba and the process destroyed his brain, he did pretty good for his first playthrough, and volcanus all by himself though lol
Gleba was...involved.

I did (from scratch) Fulgora, Gleba, gave up and went to Volcanus by shipping in rocket parts, Gleba but bringing in turrets thanks to evolution happening while I was gone, got epic unlocked and shut down Gleba to upgrade Volcanus.

Went back to Gleba and got it running okay. Did more Nauvis, Gleba broke.

Improved Gleba again, did Aquilo. And Gleba kinda broke during that.

Also I never really fixed up Nauvis to make much yellow science (I launched with like, one bot factory making it and broke that while redesigning) so at one point I was importing it from Vulcanus of all things.

But now I can use cryo plants!

Gleba definitely takes some getting used to. Dealing with the spoilage properly and understanding that you have to build top-down, rather than bottom-up was a big mental hurdle before I got it.

And then, I got Gleba balanced, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ off to Aquilo for 3 hours, only to have the ARMY FROM HELL go walk over my entire Gleba plantation. XD

Yeah that's the big thing - fulgora will run almost forever if you're mining a tiny patch with millions unless recycling backs up, volcanus will run until you use up coal usually.

Gleba is technically infinite but tends to break more catastrophically and can be attacked.

Make a self-sustained ship that can make red ammo and rockets. Then pack the front with both bullet turrets and rocket turrets. Automate fuel. Set up excess waste dump over the edge.

With 10-20 turrets, you should reach Aquilo just fine. Just remember to set up target priorities for the turrets. It is VITAL for the outer planets, or your rockets will be wasted on pebbles, leading to the big rocks wrecking your ship.

Red ammo is pointless, yellow is more than good enough for the astroids they are effective against and way cheaper and faster to mass produce.

OP likely hasn’t researched damage upgrades for bullets and explosives and/or they failed to notice the 2000 damage resistance.

I do both personally lol basically the loop that has ammo I grab off of and make red ammo, this fills the belt with red so much that yellow won't fit. However if for some reason runs low yellow now passes by the turrets :auyay: just pull the yellow off the belt after it passes turrets on the loop easy enough, ammo gets its own entire side of the belt for me anyway and my current ship holds 5k on the belt.
