wow modules are pointless
just expand your factory. the increased 1% isn't worth all the exponential requirement just to get one.

You are contradicting yourself here. You say OP is correct that using modules is pointless, then immediately advocate for their use. It's almost like OP is *not* correct...

You failed to copy paste my conclusion which is that modules are a mixed bag at best.

For the challenge. The game expects you to pollute and the biters do too. If you run a clean factory the biters never even get mad. It's practically an exploit.

I mean I certainly don't run a clean factory nor is it entirely possible to be perfectly clean lol

But part of the challenge can be attempting to run it clean as possible. Like mass solar for example so you use as little coal or nuclear power.
Something weird is you never get fuel power lol fuel generators could of bin a nice in-between for nuclear and steam. But I guess not needed.

If your any kind of good even bumped up biters aren't hard. The only issue I had was during their first behemoth stages when my upgrades were behind, but tanks and cannon shells solved thay handily again xD

My first factory was super clean, it was pretty fun.

No walls, no need to clear biter nests, etc.

My space age factory started clean. I still believe efficiency 1 modules are great early game. Drop miner pollution by 60-80% and you have all the time in the world to set up walls before anyone bothers you. Besides, speed 1 and productivity 1 are both pretty questionable value.

Yeah I keep mine "clean" to, not a single biter within my pollution!!!

Imports in another 300 artillery shells*

But effeceny is a highly valuable module, it has no down sides and only positives. While speed lowers quality, and production/quality lowers speed, honestly past efficiency 2 I don't understand cuz that's 40% and legendary is 100% lol tier 3 is overkill :auyay: majority of my production is -80% but I do mega factory every time xD I'm even pumping korvex rare trying to get epic next haha

My factories run quite clean (efficiency modules) until I have researched upgraded weapons and artillery (and nuclear power) -- at which point the biters are a non-issue and then switch over to productivity and speed modules. I never have any issues with biters with my play-style.

Example: using just the basic tier-1 efficiency modules in electric mining drills (3 modules per drill), lets you run 5 of those drills for the same pollution cost as a single un-module'd mining drill. Technically it is more than 5:1 if you count the pollution savings on your boilers from the electrical requirements reduction too -- an un-moduled drill uses 90kW, whereas an efficiency module'd drill only uses 18kW of power. This means I can have 5x more mining drills for the same pollution & electricity "costs" as someone not using those efficiency modules.

That's just the huge gains from using the cheap/basic tier-1 efficiency modules in drills. All the different types of modules have their roles, and the higher tiers make those effects more pronounced. Another great use-case for modules are productivity modules in the research/science labs, and those labs surrounded by beacons loaded up with speed modules (and productivity+speed in the science pack production chains).

You'll need a megabase to have the same throughput as someone else using modules wisely.

Well, the efficiency 3 modules are for counteracting your speed 3 modules and production 3 modules. Putting a legendary efficiency 3 module in a foundry is kinda like a free 3 MW of power!

Of course another nuclear reactor is a lot easier.

I use them in space though - throwing a few high tier ones in my shipboard foundries helps stress out my reactor a lot less and conserve fuel.

They scale a LOT worse than the others though. Even besides the cap a eff 3 module is only 66% better than an eff 1 module, and basically the same as a rare eff 1 module which is a lot cheaper. Meanwhile prod and speed 3 are equal to legendaries and speed 1 in particular are just kinda terrible at doing anything but wasting power.

I got 12 lol set to logistics to only kick on if accumulators run out, which happens only at night.

Yeah I use epic and rare effeceny 2 mostly, I use blue circuits and quality production modules, working on getting full epic 3 in my factory so far fulgora is done :auyay:

I did just finish my full upgrade to electromagnetic plants circuits for all 3 green, red, and blue, on nauvis with stack inserts. Altough I only stack insert common and use bulk for quality cuz the bulk get clogged with quality 🤣 found that out quick. Ima legendary the world! Full legendary concrete maybe 🤔

I'm addicted to quality ngl

Your profile picture looks delicious . 55 hours no achievments. Those are rookie numbers chicken boy :)

I'm currently working on swapping out all items with better quality ones, more arms for asteroid collectors, better thrusters for my fleet. And most importantly better recycler,s foundries, mag plants etc.

At least, until running into Nullius' checkpoints involving them. In which case, I resent them for blocking my progress. I've got a hundred other things to worry about, and you want me to figure out how to use this thing I forget even exists in Vanilla?

Somehow, I don't expect to be playing Space Age before the new year.

Try speed ones, you will see how faster it is. Let me not even start with the productivity on items you don't have enough materials. Like legendary materials

Also, speed beacons around lab + productivity in the lab

copy paste for rocket silos. Even if it's speed modul 1

Honestly, I hate beacons, I don't like how you need to build your factory around them insted of how you want. But, once you start using them, you understand why they are so good. But yeah, still hate them and, just like yourself, I need to remind myself they exist and that I should be using them beyond just as materials

You misunderstand 🤣🤣

I was playing on gog I own it on gog hundreds of hours, but I was playing coop and gog doesn't get updates fast so I was registered on factorio website and requested a steam key lol

I also play modded now so I don't get achievements anymore. Imagine someone cranking out epic mech armor within 50 hours though 🤣 I think I spent 100 on nauvis alone rofl just in 2.0
Rogue Zamboni Dec 2, 2024 @ 12:03pm
First, they're literally ingredients to other things, so not "pointless" by definition. Second, play 20 hours more and then you will come back and tell us about how modules are indispensable in module slots, you have them almost everywhere, and you were so so wrong. We'll wait.

Yeah, we're just having a little bit of fun ;)

yeah I definetly missed "that"achievment as well. I think my new save file I made after 2.0 is 200 hours already and I just have the regular planets before aquillo all automated with science and their unique products, drills, belts etc.

I played Factorio quite early on, so I also don't have all hours on steam.

My first SA playthrough was 286 hours. I was taking things chill and such :) Did eventually get the "all legendary" achievement. It took a bit of work.
